let me introduce myself. My name is Jack and I live in a very nice, very multicultural part of Scotland (the top bit of the UK for anybody curious). I come here as a man thrusting into adulthood with very little faith.


I follow the belief system of nihilism; something I'm sure many people here won't like but ah well, these things happen. I come to ask a question. What gives you the strength to believe in and worship Jesus and god? any and all information on Christianity would be greatly appreciated as honestly; I was raised without faith in my household and seeing people in the states so faithful has me very intrigued.

Hi Mr Nihilist. I am a communist and I can stay here in this forum as long as I behave. Can I advice you to take care of the rules of the site and at least say your favorite passage of the Bible?


If you have not read it, I will advice you to do it. I did it, because I like to know what I do not believe.


Nihilist were hard during the hard days in Soviet Union. I remember my father being imprisoned with one of them. Are you a metaphysical, epistemological, mereological, existential, moral or political nihilist? More of Nietzche or are you one of Heidegger's fanboys?

You seem like a nice fellow, so I will pray for your soul.

To answer your question, all we need to know about God, as well as the reassurance that He exists, is in the Holy Bible. You should try reading it sometime. In fact, if more people read it - truly read it as is and not as we would like it to be - I believe that we'd have much less religious wars than we had in history and continue to have.

Hello, Jack and welcome to you. We are very knowledgeable about Scotch people here, as we have had several participate on our forum. Many have been alcoholics, owing to the considerable consumption of whiskey in your country. Most of them have probably died from liver disease by now, though it is likely some are still alive in the prisons. Overall, we have not been very impressed with the qualities of Scotch people. I hope you will be a refreshing change from the usual.

You should ponder the question of what brought you here. I am certain that God would like to see a few Christians in Scotchland and He is working diligently to expose those of you He has not given up on to His word. Know that you are not here by accident. Rather, you have been chosen and given a chance by the Lord to become a productive citizen and a good Christian man. Do not waste this opportunity.

Thanks for the reply! I unfortunately have not read the bible (although the occasional passage had been brought up in school) I never even found myself with one in my hand! the idea of knowing what you don't believe i agree with fully but there is such a raw volume of things to not believe in I feel that's a promise I shouldn't make myself; although I will try. The only real religious experience I have is one of my old friends was pagan and some of my current college-mates come from various branches of the Islamic belief which seems very interesting.




I myself am an existential nihilist, I feel it rounds off what I think quite well. the idea we are Just here really does resonate with me. Ever since I read the Lovecraft short story "dreams in the witch house" the concept of there just being so many things that we cant comprehend that simply exist has just consumed me. I like Nietzsche the most, after reading the genology of morals I felt like he really "hit the nail on the head" as it seemed he was just writing the random thoughts in my head but in a much better way and over a hundred years ago!

unfortunately that small list of descriptions reminds me of far to many people I know in my own life; it is true we have many troubled people here.


thank you sir; this has genuinely made me think. I've never even really thought about the Idea of a higher power pointing me in the right direction, or even the idea of being given an opportunity that could affect my entire life.

T...and some of my current college-mates come from various branches of the Islamic belief which seems very interesting.

Islam is funny until someone blows himself up . Then, it is just hilarious.


I do not know how they can be so closed minded and do not accept that there is only one God, and is the one on the KJV Bible. They seem smart, but then, they do not understand.

About your question, there is a feeling of superiority in knowing that God has chosen you among His people; it warms me in the colder days and refreshes me in the hotter days. He walks along with me, and we chat very often. Also, I don't have to think about death! See, there are lots of advantages about being a Baptist.

There are lots of passages of the Bible to start. I would start with the first.

But if you don't like that idea, I think one of the best parts of the Bible is Deuteronomy 22


22 Thou shalt not see thy brother's ox or his sheep go astray, and hide thyself from them: thou shalt in any case bring them again unto thy brother.
2 And if thy brother be not nigh unto thee, or if thou know him not, then thou shalt bring it unto thine own house, and it shall be with thee until thy brother seek after it, and thou shalt restore it to him again.

27 For he found her in the field, and the betrothed damsel cried, and there was none to save her.
28 If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found;
29 Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.
30 A man shall not take his father's wife, nor discover his father's skirt.


This particular last verse could help you as a Scottish to teach your children not to discover your skirt. It is a sin.

I feel like this is exactly what people who believe in god get; and that honestly I am lacking. This idea of being connected and cared for. This passage here has helped me understand the motivations behind the good christian folks.
