So we are all waiting for you to share more about your reading of the Bible. Are you smitten by it? Madly in love? Shocked? Scared? Abhorred? I don't think that "unimpressed" is an option, neither for a believer who considers the Holy Bible as he Inerrant Word of God, nor for an atheist who reads the Bible just for the rapes and mass murders.

As I said, I'm here to observe and take notes. I don't have the time to engage in pointless argumentation, and if I make the mistake of doing so it gets dropped pretty quickly. I will admit, I feel a slight pang of remorse that I can't butt heads in a fruitless manner with people who's opinions I cannot change... but only slight.

A discussion is only worth having if both parties are willing to change their beliefs when presented with convincing argumentation.

This community believes what the Bible says, 100%. Convincing them that they are wrong is very simple: you just need to point out that they are not following the Bible. But you need to be prepared to learn that the Bible doesn't say what you believe it says, and thus change your opinion.

Well, I would say... a slight feeling of respect? Then again, I rarely feel emotions in the typical sense.

Which parts of the Bible made you feel respect? The bits about chopping up pregnant women? Or the God-approved genocide in general? Or the parts which say that women are inferior? Or the parts that order slaves to obey their masters no matter how cruel the masters are?

Anyway, you will fit right in with the True Christians here. They also treat the Bible with respect.

No, it does not answer my question.

The Bible clearly states that women are inferior. It's in the Ephesians, somewhere - you read the Bible, so you know that. So if you respect the Bible as the Word of God, then you have to accept your inferiority as a fact. For me personally, the misogyny of the Bible in general and of the author(s) of the Epistles of Paul specifically, is what makes me doubt that the Bible is really the Word of God.

Oh, please. That was ONLY 23 separate verses. Why not make it an even two dozen?

Actually, I have read the bible. I just prefer not to idly brag about it. After all, Christianity is not a contest to read the bible the most. Also, I operate not so much on amusement as an interest in affairs at large, in all circles of life. Is "my sort" disappointing to you? How sad, that you find humans to be disappointing or boring. I find them to be quite interesting, personally, and I make them my study. Your group may be concerned with perfecting holiness in themselves and setting themselves aside. That's fine, and that's respectable. But I prefer to be out in the midst of things. On the one hand, I maintain the mental health of individuals by providing support, and on the other I lead them to Christ. "Children playing hopscotch in the middle of your chess matches"? I would not say that applies to me, as I am mainly here to observe. But as for others doing that... that's just a fact of the internet. Believe me, as a moderator on several platforms, I can attest.

That may be true however where a self-declared believer comes up with a statement of doctrine or (less dogmatically) an idea about what God does or does not approve of and that statement flat out contradicts our only source for Christian theology (the teachings of Jesus and His ministry from the first moment of Creation to the present day)

we know they're just making it up and are EITHER unaware of God's explicit statement on exactly the same point OR are aware but reject God and THEREFORE cannot be Christians at all.


That does sort of involve knowing what The Bible says, whether you've read it once and can remember what you've read or read the whole piece every day from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21. As you point out, it's not a competition.

What amused me there, Sister Mitza, was what my dear husband calls "the superfluous actually", so very often used as an indicator of a half-truth. It is a red-flag word in this house!

Actually, I have read the bible.

If I were to say, for example, "Actually, I have been to Pakistan" this would be "true" in the sense that when I was a small child I once sat in an airside lounge in Karachi airport for an hour or two, during a refueling stop. It is not, however, true to say that I have been to Pakistan. I have never entered that God-forsaken country.

The single standard of respecting the Chief Pirate did at least produce a viable pirate ship where amputations did not exceed free prosthetics [wooden legs, hooks] thrown in by a magnanimous commander eager to keep her show on the road. I've been to Pakistan and India.Really could not tell the differences between the two 4th world cesspools. The smell, filth and gibberish. Not a good steak to be found anywhere.

It was funny to see them scurrying about like ants. It made me wish I had a giant magnifying lens to focus Gods Love™ on them
