    Re: Hello from kentucky...

Yes, I would call the cops on a man holding a dagger to his son's throat. Not doing so would be just plain stupid. It's child abuse and endangerment.

About Furries, and fun, in general:
    Ecclesiastes 9:10

(Dumbed down version: There is nothing wrong having fun, even if you're a furry.)

About supposedly not being able to sin :

1 John 3:9, NIV: "No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God."

Basically, John's advice is actually being targeted specifically at believers. In particular, that there is no excuse for sin in the life of a believer. Grace is a not a license to sin. Those who sin without remorse, conviction, or change have no relationship with Christ whatsoever. But even a saved Christian has to choose good over evil.

In the verse, the emphasis is on the one "born of God." God lives in the believer and the believer can therefore no longer live the same life as prior to becoming God's child.

Though believers continue to sin, they will be changed more into the likeness of Christ.

God's children are expected to reflect his characteristics to some degree. Again, the emphasis is not on perfection, but likeness. An unchanged person is not a true believer.
A true believer cannot help but live differently because God lives within them.

(Dumbed down version: If you believe in God you should try not to sin. You can still sin because you are human. Even though Christ died for us, we still need to confess to God any sins we do so He can forgive us.)

      On Child abuse:

Proverbs 13:24, NIV: "Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them."

Basically, this is the origin of the infamous English phrase "spare the rod, spoil the child." That paraphrase is usually quoted in defense of corporal punishment: the use of spanking or other physical means of discipline. In literal terms, this verse is a reference to corporal punishment. It is not, however, only about physical discipline. Nor is it meant to justify forms of discipline that cross the line into abuse.

(Dumbed down version: It's not okay to hit your kids, especially with razor straps, paddles, belts, switches, give them black eyes, sell little girls to grown men, give them black eyes, hold a knife to their throat, and anything else that is mentally, emotionally and physically abusive. We have child protection laws for a reason.)

      About Judgement:

      2 Corinthians 5:10:

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.

(Dumbed down version: We're all going to be judged. Everyone.)

Of course there is nothing wrong with having fun. The Bible is filled with verses showing the proper way of having fun. For example, killing babies by bashing them into rocks is an appropriate way to have fun:

Psalm 137:9 Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.

The problem is when you start having fun in a way that is condemned by the Bible. For example, wearing weird clothes (such as the furries) is an example of having fun in the wrong way:

Zephaniah 1:8 And it shall come to pass in the day of the Lord's sacrifice, that I will punish the princes, and the king's children, and all such as are clothed with strange apparel.

About supposedly not being able to sin :

1 John 3:9, NIV: "No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God."

In the verse, the emphasis is on the one "born of God." God lives in the believer and the believer can therefore no longer live the same life as prior to becoming God's child.
Let's look at this verse in King James version:

1 John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

It says that the born again do not commit sin. We cannot commit sin once we're born again. Period.

        On Child abuse:
Proverbs 13:24, NIV: "Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them."
This is an excellent example of why we choose the KJV over NIV - KJV has much simpler/direct language, while NIV beats around the bush and makes things overly complicated.

We will have to wait for Dr. Elmer White to weigh in regarding the Hebrew version, but here is the same verse in KJV:

Proverbs 13:24: He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

The KJV clearly says that a good parent beats his son most if not every evening.

I will leave you with another Proverbs verse to ponder:

Proverbs 20:30 The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly.

Therefore: beatings that result in wounds are good, as they cleanse evil.

        About Judgement:

        2 Corinthians 5:10:

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.

(Dumbed down version: We're all going to be judged. Everyone.)
Agreed. I have nothing to worry. Do you?

        Psalm 119:1-3
1 ALEPH. Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD.
2 Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.
3 They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways.

        1st John 3:6-9
6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

1st John 5:18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.
God created fossils to test our faith.

Really? Where do all those weasel words that say it's ok to keep sinning if you feel bad and/or really think you could do better or something and should maybe come from? I'm not seeing them in my copy of the Bible.

Where the Bible says that if you really love God (see your own 1 John quote), you can't sin. At all. Not even a little bit.

That's what God's grace is supposed to do. Make you perfect, like the True Christians: True Christians are Perfect!

Sounds like you'd rather keep doing confession and penance (other things the Bible doesn't approve of).

So you would have taken it upon yourself to interfere directly between Almighty God and His chosen instrument, Abraham?

I have to be honest with you, I am taken aback by that. For most of my life I have been regaled with retellings of Abraham's unswerving faith in God. The fact that he was willing to sacrifice his long awaited, only-begotten (legitimate) son was held up to me as the gold standard of trust and obedience in Our Lord. But you are saying that you would have not followed God's command in that situation or allowed another person to obey such divine instructions. That kind of makes me question the strength and clarity of your professed faith.

And my hand could find itself clutching a dagger, poised to offer up to The Lord the most precious thing in the world to me.

Or, my hand could find itself putting together a pipe bomb in order to bring down God's wrath upon an abortion clinic. Mine you, I don't think of those things as fun, of course. But service to God does bring a certain satisfaction even when it requires extreme sacrifice, I will admit that.
His left hand should be under my head, and his right hand should embrace me.

Thank you for your post and for addressing questions that have come up. I'm not sure though whether you're intending to disagree with Jesus? He did address this point, of course. He has been discussing shared clothing and opportunities for witnessing to heathens even if they act heartlessly (which mostly they do) but He does acknowledge some residual capacity for love.

Matthew 5:46-48 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

As has been covered in previous posts, The Bible guarantees Christians a capacity for perfection. Jesus did not say to attempt perfection (I presume that's what you meant by "try not to sin") or to be perfect some of the time but maybe worship an idol on Tuesdays. Remember that Jesus created the universe and His use of the imperative mood is unusually strong – from a merely human perspective.

Genesis 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

The command and the manifestation of what is commanded are intertwined so as to be indistinguishable. And that first light still exists. One small difference between light and perfection is that on Creation Day One, light did not already exist; perfection however did already exist when Jesus demanded it from Christians.

Hi Shadoe, This forum is not about dumbed down versions (or you interpretation) It is about literal quotes from the KJV Bible. On this forum you should quote from the KJV and base your argument on the verses from the KJV.

The only other option you have is to accept Jesus as your savior or become a Hell bound Heathen like me.

The Bible says when we judge ourselves and our neighbors our judgment must be in righteousness. Not what I heard from someone else about that person or what I think, but rather moral truth.

Let's see.. since your arrival at Landover, you've moved from "no judging" to "sometimes it's ok if it's by the Bible".

Your mind is already changing, because you're reading actual Scripture, instead of somebody trying to convince you of what it "really means". This is good.

One of these statements is very definitive, and the other is not. "Moral truth is basically what is right and what is wrong." and also, "Your mileage may vary and everybody gets to cobble together their own ideas on what is right or wrong."

And we don't care what you happen to think about us, either. We have the Bible, we've read the Bible, and we KNOW the Bible.

You "basically" know what feels good and right to you, and you cherry-pick the Bible to support your views on Hippy Jesus who wants you to be happy. Think of it like this. When your coworker comes into work wearing a slutty skirt that you know is just trying to put moves on the customers, are you wrong in judgement to call her a whore? You are not judging on her appearance per say, you are making an intuitive and moral judgement on her intent. And that is that inner feeling that tells you, "I know what she is up to."

Sorry to disappoint you, but you haven't changed my mind.

I don't have any idea of what goes on in my coworker's heads. Or anybody's heads.

If a coworker came in wearing a slutty skirt, she might have worn it not realizing how slutty it looked.

Or the skirt might have been a gift she wanted to try out, again, not knowing how slutty it looked.

Or she might not have had anything else to wear because they were in the wash and had to borrow something of her slutty neighbors.

Your mind is already changing, because you're reading actual Scripture, instead of somebody trying to convince you of what it "really means". This is good.

My mind hasn't changed, and I've been reading the Bible since elementary school.

I'm not sure where you got "no judging to sometimes it's okay."

                              James 4:12

There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the One who is able to save and to destroy; but who are you who judge your neighbor?

We can judge yes, but only righteously, meaning not appearances but from what's morally right from wrong.

Jesus said if we judge with aggression, then we can expect to be judged with aggression. We are supposed to judge others carefully and lovingly; we just need to make sure we’re also carefully judging ourselves. Even though we remove the plank in our eye, Jesus still says we must remove the speck in our brother’s.

I don't know how you came to that conclusion.
