You sure about that. When I did missionary work in California it certainly seemed like it was vegetable everything. The first time I ate there the waiter gives me this green gunk on a plate. I ask him what it is (beyond looking like thick pond scum). He says “Like guacamole dude.” Everything there was tofu/ bean/ guacamole. I never had anything deep fried until Des Moines.

Also, I notice you speaking English rather well for a Californian. I have yet to see you post “dude” or “fur sure” once. That was something else I got really tired of quickly. The way they prolonged that “e” in “dude” (shudder). Do Californians even realize your jaws are allowed to move while speaking?

Hmmm, did you happen to visit my town, Bobby-Joe (famous university town in the East Bay, crawling with students, well-known for hippie riots in the 1960's and 1970's)?

Well, today the place is transformed, there are new-age veggie and vegan restaurants everywhere, restaurants of every ethnic-style cuisine. That bean guacamole sounds Mexican, are you sure you didn't end up in a Mexican restaurant by mistake?

Now the restaurants are all gormet this and that. There is hardly a place to dine these days that serves good old-fashioned meat and potatoes. But at private functions and parties, and at my church, we still have barbeques and serve prime rib and steaks and all the good stuff.

As for my English -- well, I was raised in the Eastern USA, went to college in the South, and have lived in various places around the country. I read lots of books and novels, and have done some creative writing.

Unfortunately here in my California town, the young people are now speaking text (as in text messaging), and most of what they say is unrecognizable as English.
