you quote Tennyson, an admitted agnostic, but haven't mentioned your favorite biblical verse? Would you share it with us?

I have never confessed to a minister.
What church are you a member of?
Hmm that's a toughie, I'll have to get back to you on that? I'm reading through the Bible at the moment, just reached Leviticus. I will say the I enjoy the profound yet simple elegance of Genesis chapter 1.

I do not worship him any more than I worship Pythagoras for his Theorem. I just think it agrees with other fields of knowledge, such as archaeology, geology, astronomy and what have you. I do not believe evolution denies the existence of God - I mean what a truly majestic feature of life and the Universe it is!

Of course it does. The Holy Bible clearly explains how God created everything. Denying that is the same as denying God!

But the Bible has some contradictions in its texts, surely it's not meant to be taken 100 percent literally?

              You worship Pythagoras too?

The Bible teaches that God created the world in 6 days, and then rested on the seventh. Darwinism teaches that the world just popped into existence, life spontaneously generated in a pit of slime, and human beings fell out of a monkey's vagina. By worshipping Darwinism, you blatantly contradict everything the Bible says, in favor of Paganism. You don't want to go to Hell for worshipping Darwin's Paganism do you? After I read the KJ 1611 Version of the Bible and saw the truth and love between those beautiful pages I knew God was inviting me to be a Christian. I wondered to myself how many others received the same message from God? I decided to seek my answer on the Internet and behold I found the Landover Baptist Forum. When I read my Bible I saw no contradictions in any text. I saw the truth and I shall follow it until Jesus calls me to go home with him.

Darwinism does not teach how the Universe was created, but how life evolves. As I said I do NOT worship Darwinism, so please don't twist my words when I say this.

But I've seen some right in the beginning:

Genesis 1:20-25 God creates the animals from the water and the earth

Genesis 1:26 & 1:27 state that God makes man in his image: male and female he created them.

Yet AFTER this verse in Chapter 2:

Verses 2:19 - 20 then state God brings forth the cattle and the fowl from the earth for Adam to name - had he not made them before Adam?

Then 2:21 - 25 shows how God made woman from the rib of Adam, yet it was stated prior to this that God had already created both male and female.

These are just a couple I recalled from the beginning as I said I am only up to Leviticus. Yet despite these contradictions I detect a startling element of truth in them - that God made the first animals from the water mirrors the biological path of all animals, evolving from the seas. Many use the word 'slime' in a derogatory sense the dismiss this, but it mirrors the biblical passages very well.

Indeed I consider the first verse of the Bible to mirror the creation of the Universe: God created the Heaven and the Earth - he made Heaven and the physical Universe - upon stating let there be light, the Universe was borne from a singularity into the expanding Universe created from the Big Bang.

Ge:2:19: And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

Obviously He made them when He said He did -

Ge:1:20: And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
Ge:1:21: And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
Ge:1:22: And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.

There is no contradiction here! Ge:2:19: And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air;" Could best be put this way: "If you remember, "And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air;" God is simply recapping, so even peasants from the mountains can understand.

Then 2:21 - 25 shows how God made woman from the rib of Adam, yet it was stated prior to this that God had already created both male and female.
You are thinking of: Ge:1:27: So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Let us see whom He created: Ge:4:16: And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.
Ge:4:17: And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.

As one of your questions will be, "Where did the people of the Land of Nod originate?" This is your answer - God did it.

God knew what would happen so He created the People of the Land of Nod, so Cain would have a wife. These people are hardly worth a mention though.

These are just a couple I recalled from the beginning as I said I am only up to Leviticus. Yet despite these contradictions I detect a startling element of truth in them - that God made the first animals from the water mirrors the biological path of all animals, [...]
It doesn't "mirror" anything! That is EXACTLY how it happened!

Son, the Holy Bible is God's literal Word. It even says so. He expects us to obey each and every word on each and every page and be washed in Christ's blood, otherwise we are no better than the most degenerate sinner. God tells us in the Bible that we all richly deserve to be killed, sent to hell, and tortured in unspeakable ways for all eternity. Luckily for me, Jesus came along and temporarily suffered and died for my sins.

But surely that's a cyclic argument? The Bible is God's Law because IT says it is God's Law? Why should a person growing up favour the Bible over, say, the Qu'ran which is very similar.

If God finds mankind deserving of death and eternal torture, then why bless us with Free Will? Why not just make us his obedient servants as he did with the Angels? If indeed there is absolutely NO room for interpretation in the Biblical texts, why let us have Free Will? Why bother with the miracle of life at all?

YOU ASK But surely that's a cyclic argument? The Bible is God's Law because IT says it is God's Law? Why should a person growing up favour the Bible over, say, the Qu'ran which is very similar.

If God finds mankind deserving of death and eternal torture, then why bless us with Free Will? Why not just make us his obedient servants as he did with the Angels? If indeed there is absolutely NO room for interpretation in the Biblical texts, why let us have Free Will? Why bother with the miracle of life at al

God tells us we are all sinners
Psalm 51:5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me

Ecclesiastes 7:20 For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not

1st John 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

But if we accept him and live life by his Word He says
Psalm 119:2 Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.

1st John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin

Romans 8:39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

That His Word will be found in the Bible
Psalm 119:152 Concerning thy testimonies, I have known of old that thou hast founded them for ever.

Psalm 117:2 For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endureth for ever . Praise ye the LORD.

Habakkuk 2:2 And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

Jeremiah 36:2 Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day.

Why did God do all this- God Moves in mysterious ways.(or as said in the Bible- Isaiah 55:8-9 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
                                )

Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.

Exodus 4:11 And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD?
