If Sarah Palin or a Tea Party Member became president, the United States would be scoffed as the most ignorant, unmodernized, backward country in the world. The things she promotes are the antithesis to democracy and personal liberties. Besides, why would it be okay for a woman to be president if according to you they are so inferior? Personally, I think a woman would do a great job, but responses on this site have told me otherwise.
Also, I think that the Biblical law has caused as many problems as it has solved. There is good reason why people should be wary of following Christianity.

Your Father is doing a terrible job of raising you. Does he know you are on the inter-net without his permission? You should be in the kitchen, right now, making some pies to make up for the time you are wasting here.

Really? I had a dinner party last night and chicken breast with a nice demi-glaze and salad was served as the entre'. Everyone attending saw it verbatim as to what it was. No one thought it was duck breast with roast potatoes and if they had, frankly, it would be loony-bin time for them.

That is how the mind works.
As per the above example, I have shown that you are wrong.

As a white christian woman, you interpret something differently than a poorer white christian woman, or a rich white christian man... Your situation changes your interpretation.
Again, all of them would have seen the above as chicken breast with salad on the side, don't you agree?

FTR, I have been a financially poor Christian woman. Now I am a wealthy (financially) Christian woman. The only change is the monetary part. My understanding and appreciation of the riches(of love and of spirit) God brings to my life has never changed.. You see perception and understanding of the love of of the eternal, which is God, does not change due to materialist circumstances. You certainly are a shallow litttle thing aren't you to even make such a ludicrous claim that God's impact on ones life MUST have something to do with the $$ in their bank account.

Also, considering that the Bible was written by MAN who wanted complete control, it would make sense that they would not want alteration of their word.
The Bible is God's word, merely written for prosperity by man; Men whom God chose to bring forth His Word. If you are making claims that it was merely a conjuring of allegedly human men wanting "control", then please explain how the books of Ruth and Esther fit into your little equation?

Also, it is obvious that MANY HUMAN MALES do want God's word changed to suit their own purposes, hence there being such per versions unfortunately available out there to the masses like the catholic bible (just as one example).

Catholicism and Christianity are the product of various splits in the church.
BZZZT! Wrong. Catholicism actually is a satan inspired bastardization of the Word of God. As the Roman Catholics DID want control (as you stated before, certain interpretations of The Bible were written by control freaks and UnGodly men, then catholics would be the ones you are referring to)

Baptist Christianity is a sect of Protestantism, which was a variation of Catholicism.
BZZT! Wrong again! Baptists actually go back to the teachings of Jesus and His direction and is more in tune with the Apostles question to mission and tell the world about the Love of God. Catholicism is about idol worship and sucking up to the Pope, whereby totally ignoring the words of Jesus himself: Just WHERE in this particular Chapter of John 14 do you see that any man (including the pope) is the "middle-man" in God's plan?

      John 14

1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?

6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.

8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.

9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?

10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.

11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.

12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

      16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.

20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?

23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.

25These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.

26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.

29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.

30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.

31 But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.

      .

Catholicism is the result of Judaism. By this logic, Catholicism is older and closer to the word of Christ, and more accurate.
That is an interesting "interpretation". lol Truly, the more you spew forth, just shows how little you know! Ok, I am happy to explore your point here. PLEASE show me where in the Talmud and the Tanakh the joos instructed anyone to kiss the Pope's ring or to worship Mary.

Protestantism was not created until much after Christ, and Baptism even further after.
WOW I bet John the BAPTIST, the one whom actually BAPTIZED JESUS HIMSELF would beg to differ!! Unless of course you are claiming that Martin Luther (the protestant to the Catholic clap-trap) actually WROTE all of John The Baptist's scipture and therefore Baptized Jesus circa ? If that is your claim, cite the sources for your inane (but in your mind )"logical" conclusion

By this logic, there were three different interpretations of Christ's word before your "unalterable" perspective arose.
As per above YOUR LOGIC FAILED, unless of couse you can prove that ML wrote the scriptures of John and was the one to Baptize Jesus!! Also, I never said God's word was not altered. It has been through time by demonic influences; ie The Catholic Church. I DID however say that the Word Of God as per the KJV1611 is infallible. Your use of "unalterable" is not mere semantics but a deceitful usage of a word.

I agree that the provisional nature of science makes it as much of a belief as religion. But it is grounded on more evidence than religion, and is much more integral in modernity.
Here is the irony. A TRUTH is never changing at its core. I give you example:God. God does not HIMSELF change, despite "modernity", nor despite how much you want to sit and spin on your own self-professed "understanding" of what life is, who self is and how we all "allegedly" tick.

Our world would not evolve technologically and culturally if we relied only on religion.
That is rubbish. If what you claim is true, when why did the Egyptians and others build buildings back some 5000 odd years ago, which BTW are still standing and sound, when this so called "evolved" technology you speak of in this day and age, are scratching their heads how to HOW they did it, with nothing more than God belief and archaic tools. Riddle me THAT miss 16 yr old "know it all"

Wouldn't a preacher be an expert of religion?
No. Just as the Pope isn't. The only expert on God's word is God.

Doesn't claiming to know the Bible or God make you self-worshipping?
No. How is understanding the word of GOD and realizing HIS reason and plan as HE wrote it, self-worship? Knowing HIS word transcends self as you are not working for yourself, but for Him.
Humans can only ASK to be saved. It is up to God to determine whether your plea for salvation is in ernest. You have to give yourself up to the Lord to even begin to understand Him and there is where and when His plan kicks in and you finally realize that is WHY you are on earth. I for one thank God every day for what HE has provided me. How is THAT in your eyes self worship? When I am thanking God and God alone and not myself?

I agree that life is a learning curve. I don't think that I know everything. I think that my exploration of the universe, though, is much more rational and logical than some of what I've heard on here.
And again, what we all "think" we understand at the age of 16, what we "think" is logical and rational at 16, later in life turns out to be nothing more than a lack of understanding of pertty much ANYTHING life has to offer. Sure it is all fine and dandy to have these alleged "solid" thoughts at your age, but you are still under the wing of your parents and I presume, pretty much all is provided for you. Your life right now is pretty cushy,. Enjoy these "given" perks while you can. As I said to you on another thread, come your mid 40's, what you DIDN'T know, realize or understand at the age of 16 yrs, could well fill libraries.

What is this alleged "exploration of the universe" are you waffling about? I doubt you have ever been out of your city limits, let alone the Continent you live on!

Gosh, "know it all" brats are funny!

Congratulations, Phebe, you did such a good job formulating complete sentences! By the way, did you know your name also belongs to a lingerie company?

Alright. Problemo uno: Verbatim does NOT mean acknowledging what is there. Verbatim is repeating what is written. You cannot SEE something verbatim, you can only repeat it. My point was that it is impossible to repeat something verbatim, because information is subject to interpretation. This should take care of your following poorly developed and defined arguments.

You wouldn't be convinced of this, you haven't taken a theory of knowledge class.. but it's reliable, your perspective is different than others. The way you see poor people, or people of different races is an indication of your wealth. Maybe not your fundamental beliefs, but indeed your perspective.

It fits into my little equation because so few people know about it.. Like me for example. I wasn't covering facts, I will admit, I don't know all the books of the Bible. But I will say that while there is a possibility that they're written by women, I would bet that they're written by men, and your point dissolves hence.

Try historically defining Catholicism, without sounding like a biased skeptic. Can you? Because ring kissing scum sure as heck is not an unbiased perspective. I don't think Catholicism is without fault, but I do think that it is as valid as Baptism.

Oh, you'll love this one: John's baptism was a purification rite for repentant sinners, performed in "living water" (in this case a running river) in accord with Jewish custom. Yep. John the Baptist was Jewish. His custom, baptizing, was JEWISH. I know... mindblowing. Anyway, this practice of baptism, though it went back to John the Baptist, did not create a religion until 1609, almost 100 years after Martin Luther's 1517 reformation. Chronologically, I'm making more sense here, just refer to this thing I'd like to call Google, unless your religion condemns that too.
And again, according to time and history, Judaism --> Christianity (in form of Roman Catholics and Greek Orthodox Catholics, both following Christ)--> Protestantism--> Baptist
Verdict? Your religion, which I'm not saying is false, is less credible than earlier religions.
As far as truth being solid at their core, I hope this means you have complete faith in science? Because your theories aren't aligning.

I would like to point out that a computer, which you're typing on, is much more complex than the pyramids. I don't think that they're going away for a very long time. These are the result of great minds. The pyramids are architecture, not a complex work of science, but of manual labor. With enough slaves, one can build just about anything, such as the Great Wall of China, which spans a greater distance than the continental United States. Funny you bring up the Egyptians, because they're polytheistic, and didn't believe in your God.

I don't think I am complete in my development. This is why I'm going to a great university next year and hope to continue development for a long, long time. Unlike you, I haven't turned my back on others' theories. I'm probably the only one on this thread who has absorbed other perspectives. I know I have a lot to learn, and you might want to consider that some of the things I've said are the product of a lot of thought, consideration, and analysis, and I'm merely trying to explain my world.

I've been out of the continent twice, three times come summer, and much more come college because of study abroad. I've been all over the country. I'm fluent in Spanish, act, create art, have read translated and English texts that are some of the greatest works of literature, and can do complex chemistry problems. I am taking calculus, world history, and historiography classes. I am exploring my world through knowledge and thought, and not taking what my authorities tell me for granted. And I work my butt off doing so. I have maintained straight A's in an IB program. I'm Salutatorian, which is second in my class. I have started a GSA, am vice president of a drama club, and am an active participant in eight other clubs. I am provided for, but I work to get where I'm going in life.

And just to be clear, I don't know everything. I don't claim to be a know it all. I just don't accept that the world is the way that a group of men wrote in a book.
There's nothing interesting about looking perfect.

Congratulations, Morgsara, you did such a good job formulating an ad-hominem attack! By the way, did you know your second sentence is a useless non-sequitor?

          Ummm.... what?

"Verbatim is repeating what is written. You cannot SEE something verbatim, you can only repeat it."

Here, I've given you a great example of something repeated verbatim. I am guessing you should be able to see it on your computer monitor. Please let me know if you can't.

Now, if you will look at those sentences you have written, you should be able to see that I have done nothing to them. Their original meaning is preserved and has not been filtered through either my socio-economic, political or religious leanings. Ergo, it is not impossible to repeat something verbatim without adding any interpretive filters to it.

Here is a great example of quoting something verbatim and adding interpretive filters to it though:

"This should take care of your following poorly developed and defined arguments."

You wouldn't be convinced of this, you haven't taken a theory of knowledge class.. but it's reliable, your perspective is different than others. The way you see poor people, or people of different races is an indication of your wealth. Maybe not your fundamental beliefs, but indeed your perspective.
The problem with your argument here is you are assuming your little epistemological theories you learned in your theory of knowledge class are, without a doubt, the way the world works. Unfortunately, philosophy doesn't work like that. If you disagree with me on this, I have some great Platonically Ideal oceanfront property in Nevada you might be interested in.

It fits into my little equation because so few people know about it.. Like me for example. I wasn't covering facts, I will admit, I don't know all the books of the Bible. But I will say that while there is a possibility that they're written by women, I would bet that they're written by men, and your point dissolves hence.
There is a distinct, non-zero possibility that I am going to wake up tomorrow with no arms or legs. Doesn't mean that's going to happen.

However, there is no possibility that any of the books in the Bible were written by women with the notable exceptions of Ruth and Esther. The Lord saw fit to give those two women credit where it was due, why do you think He wouldn't do so if it that were the case for any of the other books?

Try historically defining Catholicism, without sounding like a biased skeptic. Can you? Because ring kissing scum sure as heck is not an unbiased perspective. I don't think Catholicism is without fault, but I do think that it is as valid as Baptism.
Unfortunately, you think wrong. True Christian™ Baptism is the ONLY valid religion. If you can prove to me that cathlicks follow the KJV 1611 Bible to the letter and don't twist scripture for their own ends, I will concede this point to you. Don't worry, I can wait.

Oh, you'll love this one: John's baptism was a purification rite for repentant sinners, performed in "living water" (in this case a running river) in accord with Jewish custom. Yep. Did I miss the memo where everybody found out that the age of a religion determines its validity? Uh oh, guess I'd better become a hindoo now!

And while there are some similarities between baptism and jooish purification rites, there are also some very key differences too. Jooish purification rites are repeatable, whereas baptism (to a True Christian™ Baptist church like LBC) is not.

As far as truth being solid at their core, I hope this means you have complete faith in science? Because your theories aren't aligning.
What does Sister Phebe (not) believing in sickular science have to do with anything?

I would like to point out that a computer, which you're typing on, is much more complex than the pyramids. I don't think that they're going away for a very long time. I guarantee that there are more people in the world who can correctly explain how a computer works than can correctly explain how the pyramids were built. Seems to me that would make the pyramids a bit more complex in your little apples and oranges comparison.

And funny you should bring up the Egyptians and their heathen ways. How did that turn out for them?

"And what he did unto the army of Egypt, unto their horses, and to their chariots; how he made the water of the Red sea to overflow them as they pursued after you, and how the LORD hath destroyed them unto this day;" Deuteronomy 11:4

Yes, good for you dear. Too bad you will spend eternity burning in Hell unless you repent.

"But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." Revelation 21:8

And just to be clear, I don't know everything. I don't claim to be a know it all. I just don't accept that the world is the way that a group of men wrote in a book.
Believe me, you have made it abundantly clear that you do not, in fact, know everything.

Now I suggest you repent of your (many) sins, get a KJV Bible, read it cover to cover and follow all of the Lord's commandments to the LETTER before God decides to smite you.
"Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him." And again, according to time and history, Judaism --> Christianity (in form of Roman Catholics and Greek Orthodox Catholics, both following Christ)--> Protestantism--> Baptist

You know, I haven;t posted here for a while because I could see the futility in trying to provide logical responses to totally illogical people. (ie the susej dog followers here) but WTF are you trying to prove on here?

I am so sick of teeny boppers who know everything because they are taking classes in this or that, spouting out their opinion (or perhaps their teachers' opinions) on what is or what isnt because they have spent a few weeks in front of a blackboard being told waht to believe. If you were one of my students I would fail you now. I assume that because of your age your are a sophomore, perhaps a senior if you've been pushed ahead. You must have all the answers, even more than your teachers, given your age. Let's look at your points a little.

RE: you understanding of egyptians. You do know that the leading egyptologists of the world recognise that the pyramids were a lot more than just architecture, but linked with energy systemsfar beyond our own, and the builders of the pyramids were not slaves, but willing workers. Not wanting to correct you because you are, after all a know it all teenager....

And your understanding of the chronology of monotheistic religion, WOW. You do recognise that although the christians here are all nutjobs, they have all been studying their religion for at least double the time you have been alive. In some cases even triple or quadruple. They have the understanding of THEIR beliefs, not the understanding of their teachers.

WRT catholicism, you are so far away from even accepted history. The catholic church was formed in the LATE roman times circa 300-400 CE (AD for the religious types). Other forms of christianity arose well before this, including the Baptist. In fact, there is written historical evidence of Christianity prior to Jesus (although the locals on this board won't acknowledge it). You even contradicted your own argument here as compared to when you contradicted Phebe Figillily in a previous post.

So instead of pushing your know it all teenage angst onto this board, why don't you spend some time trying to understand where they are coming from instead of hiding behind what some dude/ette taught you in cognitive knowledge or what ever that bullshit name they gave the course. You make yourself look like a sheep to those who teach you, not one who thinks for themselves.

Well thank you for trying to show that atheists think they're stupid as well. I'm not sure they'll listen, after all they know everything! And have the Facebook status to prove it. But thanks for trying.

Oh, but they know that catholics were the first Christians, just like they know that the civil war was all about slavery, and that anyone who disagrees with them is stupid. As for Christianity existing before Jesus? Umm..... er....... well I guess John the Baptist was born before Jesus. Are you talking about people who were waiting for Jesus to arrive on the scene?
PROOF: Atheists are too stupid to understand the Bible!

Proverbs 13:24(KJV): "He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes."

Galatians 4:16 Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?
