Please pray for..

Hi,

I can't access the prayer requests forum so i thought i would ask here, sorry that this is in the wrong place.

My grandfather has been in hospital for a few weeks now and the doctors have now said he has lung cancer.

I really don't know how to feel about this and i would appreciate it if you would include him in your prayers in hope that he will get better.

Yes, your grandfather is dying. He always has been. The lung cancer is just a reminder. Even if it magically got better, you don't expect him to live forever, do you?

I'm assuming you love him and are upset by the recent diagnosis, and aren't just looking for sympathy from near-total strangers. If you do love him, make him as happy as you can for the time he has left with you. Go to the hospital and talk to him. Get to know him better. When he's gone, everything he knows goes with him.

And when he does go, don't be sad. He was lucky enough to survive on this planet long enough to have grandchildren who loved him, right?

On the other hand, you could hang on to your religious superstitions, and have a reason to get all upset when the True Christians™ detail out exactly why your grandfather will burn in Hell for all eternity with Satan's barbed tallywhacker up his wazzoo...

Congratulations! You must be so thrilled to know your pappy is going to Heaven to dance with Jesus! Are you going to throw a party? This is assuming he is a good Christian man. Is he?

He's a baptist, so i presume so yes.

Scott, I will be praying along with you that your Grandfather will be able to live a while longer. It's true all humans die eventually, but I hope you could be with a while longer before he goes. I do not know his background, nor do I even know what he's like, but I hope God has other plans for him before sending him back 'home'. Good luck.

I don't think so, well at least he doesn't fall under any of the reasons for being damned by Jesus in your signature.

Do you have any idea what he could have done to upset God?

For example, he may have had impure thoughts or gazed at a woman (or man!) in a lustful fashion. The Bible states he should pluck out his eye. Then his lung cancer may go away.

The whole irony will of course be that the doctors will conclude that surgically removing one's eye is the cure for lung cancer

Friend, I have a little story to tell you. Let's head over to Mark 9:14-29:

14 And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them.
15 And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him.

If he truly believes in God and the power of prayer, he shouldn't trust his fate to secular medicine but to God. He should make things right with God. Now he's just trying to play God himself by deciding that he shouldn't have lung cancer. It's God's decision, not his.

Another possibility to consider is that sometimes God's wrath is conferred several generations past the original offender. It is possible your grandfather's grandfather was a scheming Moabite or something, and now is when the punishment for that offense to God is due.

Good point. That does not bode well for our friend, however. He too may be cursed by God. He may naively think that if he lets his grandfather escape punishment that he himself won't be punished as a result.

That's the real reason why cancer sometimes runs in families. It has nothing to do with genetics.

I prayed for him. Is he cured yet?

If not, he did something to God. You need to find out what it was. I suggest you just go and ask him. I'm sure he knows what it was. He might not want to tell you, though. But go ask him.
