The difference is that this hypothetical book of yours isn't the DIRECT AND INSPIRED WORD OF GOD. The Bible has 100% proven correct factual science, history, and prophecy to back up that it is indeed the Word of God.

But I am also a educated and very calm and rational man. I like to look at all the facts before I jump to a conclusion. I have found it is often best to listen to those purported to be versant in a field and ask a few basic, ground breaking questions to see if further, in depth discussion is warranted. You see, talking to experts when you have nary a clue, making bold statements, well, you end up coming off looking very foolish.
You claim you are an atheist. Fine. So you deny your own existence. Fine. To exist and be unaware of that very existence is extremely common and nothing to be ashamed of. However, you then try to tell other people they do not exist, when these very people are completely aware of themselves.
Then you go and make demands of others to prove their existence only because you fail to believe in your own. Pretty wacky when you slow down, take a deep breath and look.
Do you love you parents? Do they love you? Why? Is the world a nice place. Does anyone know why everything is the way it is? Tell me one person (other than God) that explains it all, backs it up with verifiable facts. No theories, no 'Todays best guess is', none of that mumbo jumbo. On our side, we have fact. We have Gods word, we have daily miracles.

For the unexplained stuff, ok go look to the bible for the answer, I have no problem with this. But when we are talking about something that is explained and proven (Example the earth is round, not flat), and you deny it just because it says so in the bible is ignorant.
Or beating your children... thats just awful. Maybe that was a normal thing to do back then, but not its not anymore and you should not do it even if the bible says so. Like i said earlier: Child Abuse if illegal for a reason.
