Alright, well first and foremost I would like to know how do i get this "unsaved trash" marker off of my account?

I attend a Grace Brethren church.

I have never had a "favorite Bible verse" because I have always seen the entire Bible as a unified work that from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 21:21 tells the story of how God, in his infinite love, has redeemed the fallen human race. Single verses are too often taken with no thought to the context and can be easily twisted to mean terrible things. However, after some thinking I have decided that of the many great verses that the Good Book contains, one of the most influential in my life has been this.

Matthew 7:5 "you hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck form your brother's eye."

I became a believer when i was 6 years old, but for about 10 years i never really understood what it meant. i merely went to church, was nice, and tried to do less "bad things". But about 3 years ago i finally realized that it was truly deeper change of heart that mattered. So thats me, I love to study apologetics and other doctrinal issues when I'm not studying for my regular classes, playing video games, or playing paintball.

Hopefully i will fit your wise standards and not have to endure being called "unsaved trash" much longer.

That is like saying that there are no memorable lines from the complete works of Shakespeare. Yet we find people quoting nuggets all the time. In fact almost everyone who lasts for more than one day here at Landover Baptist Church can quote something that is meaningful to them personally.

To say the Bible is a unified work is a cop-out. It means you haven't read enough of it to separate the wheat from the chaff.

What kind of heathen bible did you get that from? Obviously you just jumped into the middle of this forum without lurking and reading for a while. Had you read some of the Introductory material you would have found that the 1611 King James Bible is the only true Bible.

Notice is a beam and not a 'plank'. I doubt you could fit a plank into a persons eye. Don't you see how absurd you are being?

You play video games? I hope they are clean, Christian games like those from the 'Leap Frog' line. Why don't you spend all your spare time reading the Bible or doing chores for your dad? You know, without his seed, you'd be nothing.

Welcome to our forum. Where do you hail from young man? I am happy that you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior(TM). I am however a little uneasy about the fact that you play video games. A majority of them lead to Satanic worship and chronic masturbation. Paintball does sound like a manly sort of sport, I have not tried it, perhaps some day I will.

On to the question of " unsaved trash".
We have a large amount of people who visit our forum on a daily basis. The vast majority of them are either atheists, retards, God Mockers or Homers. Keep in mind that at one time each of us (True Christians) was labeled unsaved trash. Jesus will tell us through prayer if indeed one day you will become a forum member. Keep a civil tongue, respect your betters and read before you post.

I've changed your Scripture Verse to the Correct Translation. Around here, we only use the KJV, we don't buy into any of those demonic new "translations."

Anyway, an inspiring choice of Scripture! Personally, I always combine it with 1 John 3:4-12:

Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

As you probably know, Jesus spoke these words before He died on the cross, and all people were still in their sins. However, now that Jesus has died, we are cleansed from all sins, as you can read in the above Passage.

In other words, the "beam" (which represents our sins) is cast out by Jesus, so now, we see clearly to remove the mote from our brothers eye (call them out on their sins), as Jesus commands.

My apologies, while i don't think that in this specific instance my version was terribly different i see where that could cause problems, so in accordance with your rules i will use the KJV while on these forums from here on out. If i may inquire why is it that you prefer said Bible? I have no reason to suggest that a different one is better though.

Also is my name inappropriate? I have always found that the more one dwells in the Word and thinks about it, the greater understanding that they obtain from it. God does not call us to "blind faith", but rather (because he is absolute truth) the more we think, the more will will draw near to Him. I will change the name if you don't like it though, i may assure you I am not "bob"

I never said that there were no "memorable lines" in the Bible, that is also why I posted a specific verse that is of specific import to me. However, each and every verse must be looked at through the lens that we develop after reading all of God's Word. At least that is how I feel, why focus on small parts of perfect understanding when the whole of it is right in front of you.

Thank you James Dewitt, I was beginning to feel rather unwelcome but i see that that must have been a misunderstanding. For clarification, what do you mean by Homers? I'm unfamiliar with the term. My church is Grace Brethren, its an independent group of churches. However they are very similar in doctrine to Southern Baptist (which is how I was raised). However I must admit that saying i attend the church is somewhat misleading. That is the church where i would go on Sunday if i did go to church. However I am currently a student at a University and am without a car, so i really do not find it manageable to spend $20 dollars of money that I don't have each week to commute. That is why I have been forced to study in more of my free time on my own lately. This is also the reason why I no longer do chores for my father. I am no longer at home and am no longer receiving financial support from him, so I don't do chores. I do try to stop by the house and stay for a couple nights every month or two though.

I must admit that I have not played "Leapfrog" for quite some time. Rather I play online games such as Counter-Strike with a large group of other Christian gamers. We were commanded to "And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." (Mark 16:15) And we see that the "world" of online gaming is indeed part of our world today, furthermore, it is one much lacking in Christian influence. So, in much the way that Jesus reached out to tax-collectors and Samaritans (who the Jews regarded as the worst of sinners) we feel that the world of online gaming is full of people who are in need of the Light of Jesus.
P.S. i may assure you that the act of saving virtual hostages from terrorists has never caused me to either worship Satan, or masturbate.

And yes, i should say that paintball is a manly sport. It is as close to actual combat as you can get without actually killing people. I play both Military Simulation style, as well as faster paced "airball" tournament paintball.

I'm sorry, but what you say is directly contradicted by Jesus' own Words:

John 20:29:
Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

Not seeing, and yet believing, is more or less the definition of Blind Faith, friend.

However, each and every verse must be looked at through the lens that we develop after reading all of God's Word.

Well, reading the Bible through a "lens" seems a little bit too much like interpreting it instead of just obeying it. For example, consider the following Scripture:

Deuteronomy 13:12-16:
If thou shalt hear say in one of thy cities, which the LORD thy God hath given thee to dwell there, saying,
Certain men, the children of Belial, are gone out from among you, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known;
Then shalt thou enquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold, if it be truth, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought among you;
Thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that is therein, and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword.
And thou shalt gather all the spoil of it into the midst of the street thereof, and shalt burn with fire the city, and all the spoil thereof every whit, for the LORD thy God: and it shall be an heap for ever; it shall not be built again.

I don't really see where I need a "lens" for in this instance. The Bible is crystal clear here: if a city allows the preaching of other religions than Biblical Christianity, all inhabitants should be killed, men, women, children and animals. So what exactly do you mean?

Well, this is something we can agree on. Indeed, here at Landover, we follow the entire Bible, not just the "nice" parts. I am constantly amazed how many Christians, for example, object to the stoning of witches, as ordered in Leviticus 20:27.

Yes, it does, of course, as it is about "believing," which is what faith is. And there is one word in your explanation that doesn't belong, and very helpfully you already put it in capitals: PHYSICALLY. This is your own addition to Scripture: nowhere does John 20 speak specifically about "physically" seeing. Instead, it is about seeing in general.

In short, your interpretation here results in an understanding that deviates from the literal meaning of the text.

Also:

Proverbs 30:5-6:
Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

You have just violated the above Passage. God's word is pure, and you do not need to add words, let alone change the meaning of the text with them.

Oh, but we do that. That's what is called Bible Study. The difference between you and me is that I do whatever the Bible tells me to do, while you add or remove words to change the meaning as you see fit. That's not "meditating," that is "mutilating."

Well,

1. There is no Verse in the Bible that sets a time limit on this Verse of Deuteronomy.
2. If this command wasn't valid anymore, why would it still be in God's Holy Bible?
3. Why would this Verse not apply anymore, yet other Verses still be valid? What makes the distinction? Or does the entire Old Testament not apply anymore?
4. Most important, the Bible is very clear that we still should follow the Old Testament Law:

2 Kings 10:10:
Know now that there shall fall unto the earth nothing of the word of the LORD.

Psalm 119:89:
For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.

Isaiah 40:8:
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

Matthew 5:18-19:
Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or tittle shall nowise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven.

Luke 16:17:
And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.

So, I think it is abundantly clear that every single Verse in the Old Testament still applies. Declaring that it wouldn't is heresy.
