  • Hi there peeps

    Hi folks...

I have a question for you... and please answer I am going somewhere with this.

How long do you think it takes for a rumour or gossip to change from it's original form.

    3 - 5 people over a few days

10-20 people over a few months....

    Interesting forum btw.

Genuinely intrigued by you guys and your faith... no trash talking... no belittling intended on my part.

I'm from the UK and enjoy the study of different religions, their history and place in modern times as well as the different groups that naturally come about from it.

Sorry if my opening post came across like that (got the warning and noted) I saw from reading the information at the beginning that you guys literally take the bible exactly as it says things with little interpretation... because we all know there are many ways things in the book can be interpreted.

So apologies from the offset. Just looking to engage in constructive talk is all. Not looking for a flame fest.

Here is where you introduce yourself. Tell us what church you go to and what your favorite Bible verse is and how you came to find Jesus.

          Re: Hi there peeps

My favorite verse would have to be

          Matthew 10:34-35

"Do not think that I have come to bring peace on earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man's foes will be those of his own household."

Spoken by Jesus, only because of the questions it asks about what Jesus was thinking had he been the son of god/god.

          And also

          2 Thessalonians 2:11-12

"Therefore God sends upon them a strong delusion, to make them believe what is false, so that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness."

Which leads to question faith being a test that God presented to people.

And also in reference to the dead sea scrolls... I do not believe that Jesus was referenced within them?

I used to go to St Pauls Church in South Wales. I completed the alpha course, was baptised and confirmed.

Faith kind of slipped when I started studying the bible and religion as a whole later on.

I am curious friend, what makes you think anyone should 'interpret' the Bible? Did I miss something on the jacket sleeve?
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?
Numbers 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Matthew 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Matthew 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

              Re: Hi there peeps

Being as followers of the bible are following what is being written, that in itself is an interpretation... the KJB itself is an interpretation naturally if only by the translation friend.

The whole point of bible study is to understand an interpretation of the text.

Other religions take the same book as yourselves and interpret the same writings in a different way wrongly or rightly.

Some Muslims interpret their writings in the most horrific ways possible, no matter what it says they will twist it into some deluded act.

Same is true of some Christians, catholics, even athiests.

It's all interpretation as not one of us was there to witness things as they happened.

So it's just open season for anyone to cherry pick and twist God's word to mean whatever they want it to mean?

                That's sick in the head.

But how can one say they know what God's word is? Like I postulated anything taken from the bible would be interpretation.

If 20 people from one group believe a verse means one thing, and 20 people from another group believe a verse means another... and both are equally committed to God then how can one proclaim ignorance of the other?

Friend, like so many cherry picker and fluffy bunnies before you, the Bible is not some mysterious book full of voo doo and magic words. It is the simple Word of God. You read it, you follow it. Period. No where does it say 'interpert'.
The Bible cannot be modified to suit a perverted lifestyle, you must change yourself to suit God.

You'll find that any educated person would find that what I said makes perfect sense.

                            KJB - King James Bible

And the KJB was re-written in itself in order to bring the bible to the underclasses, it was even written in a language more likely to be understood by the commoners to facilitate them coming into the church. This is historical fact.

So what you are following 'verbatim' is an interpretation of text that was actually written for the less educated people and the masses in a language that they would understand...

That said, how do you cope with parts that are contradictory to itself

They are seen from the start of the bible... Genesis:

GE 1:3-5 On the first day, God created light, then separated light and darkness.
GE 1:14-19 The sun (which separates night and day) wasn't created until the fourth day.

GE 1:11-12, 26-27 Trees were created before man was created.
GE 2:4-9 Man was created before trees were created.

GE 1:20-21, 26-27 Birds were created before man was created.
GE 2:7, 19 Man was created before birds were created.

GE 1:24-27 Animals were created before man was created.
GE 2:7, 19 Man was created before animals were created.

GE 1:26-27 Man and woman were created at the same time.
GE 2:7, 21-22 Man was created first, woman sometime later.

                            And then further in:

MT 26:8 The disciples reproach her.
                            MK 14:4 "Some" reproach her.
JN 12:4-5 Judas Iscariot reproaches her.

Which meaning do you follow verbatim?
