"I ponel" (Я понял) is "I understood..."

We don't say "the God," just "God."

You meant to say "When I learned that my brother and my mother had had an accident, I understood that this was God's way of shouting at us that their sin was the cause of their misfortune."

When St Paul, under the influence of God Almighty, wrote:
