Why is being gay a sin, but eating shellfish is not?

I am not gay. I am a christian. I love my god. I also respect other peoples rights, as a free american, to worship in whomever they choose to, the bible is very clear on this. Love thy neighbor, and I do. I dont understand why people are so adamant about homosexuality as a huge sin in our religion, but the same book also tells us that wearing certain types of clothing is a sin, or eating certain foods is a sin, so then why do we selectively choose to apply sins which do not apply to us? Isnt that wrong and self absorbed? Would god ever forgive us for hating other human beings? Or being violent towards people different from us? I am not new to religion, but I have my doubts about the way certain people preach this subject now a days.

You sound like a cherry picker. Who is your neighbour?
What sort of an introduction is that? Now run along and do what it says in the box above.

We don't do this. Only false Christians pick and choose which parts of the Bible they obey. All those false Christians will burn in Hell for all eternity as James 2:10 teaches us only obeying 100% of the Holy Bible is good enough for God!

        Godwilling,

Your question confuses me. My Bible tells me to shun unnatural affections, and I would never mix fabrics in any garment I sew, lest the LORD GOD choose to slay me. This is not being unfriendly or unkind, it is simply being obedient, which is what the Lord expects. Regardless of how it may seem to me at the time, my place is to follow His Word and His instructions for me every day of my life. This will result in heaven or hell depending upon what His opinion is of me once I face the final judgment. GLORY TO HIS NAME!

We welcome you to our friendly forums, where you will find fellowship with many learned men and obedient women!

Talk is cheap. You sound like just another run-of-the-mill Christian-in-Name-Only (CHINO) who hasn't bothered to read the Holy Bible (KJV 1611) for yourself and simply believes what you've been told about what it means to be a Blood-Bought Son of the Lamb.

I also respect other peoples rights, as a free american, to worship in whomever they choose to, the bible is very clear on this.
This is a bold assertion. Please point out where in the Holy Bible we are directed to respect other peoples' right to be anything other than a Christian. While we are not necessarily compelled to force conversion on others, that is quite a ways off from having to respect paganism, occultism, atheism, and other false religions and cults. If someone does not believe as we do, our Christian duty is to denounce their false doctrine and to shun them.

          Matthew 10:14-15
And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.
Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

          I Corinthians 5:11
But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

          Ephesians 5:11
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

          II John 1:9-11
Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.
If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:
For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

Love thy neighbor, and I do.
And who is your neighbor? What does the Bible have to say on this matter? Please take some time to edify yourself on this common misconception. I suggest Pastor Sampson's sermon on the matter as a good place to start:

Bible Answers: Who are our neighbors? Who are our brothers and sisters? Who are we to love?

I dont understand why people are so adamant about homosexuality as a huge sin in our religion, but the same book also tells us that wearing certain types of clothing is a sin, or eating certain foods is a sin, so then why do we selectively choose to apply sins which do not apply to us?
Why do you assume we selectively apply God's Commandments to ourselves? Are you just looking for an excuse to violate the Law? I don't even keep cotton and wool in the same closet, much less wear them at the same time.

To get at the question posed in the title of your post, many dietary restrictions were annulled when Jesus (temporarily) died, although nobody really knew until 50 AD or so, when Peter was shown a vision:

          Acts 10:9-16
On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:
and he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,
and saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:
wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.

But notice that there is no mention of shellfish in Acts 10:12. Some people interpret these verses as applying to all ancient dietary restrictions, but when Salvation(tm) is on the line, it's not a chance I'm willing to take, for myself or my family. Shrimp may be delicious. I wouldn't know. But even if it is, is it really worth risking eternal damnation over?

Isnt that wrong and self absorbed? Would god ever forgive us for hating other human beings?
There's no have here, friend. Our hearts are filled with abundant love for all the unsaved trash. Why else would we spend so much time trying to minister to their needs? Why would we tell people we hate exactly what they need to do in order to join us in Heaven?

We are simply scourging and chastening them, like the Bible tells us to do so with those whom we love.

          Hebrews 12:5-8
And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
for whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

And Jesus (temporarily) died precisely so we could be forgiven of any past transgressions. That was sort of the whole point.

But sin is a thing of the past for us now. In fact, True Christians(tm) cannot sin.

Or being violent towards people different from us? I am not new to religion, but I have my doubts about the way certain people preach this subject now a days.
I join you in denouncing Islamofascism. At least we are agreed on something.
          II Thessalonians 1:7-9
And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power

The man who is being progressively sanctified will inescapably sanctify his home, school, politics, economics, science, and all things else by understanding and interpreting all things in terms of the Word of God and by bringing all things under the Dominion of Christ the King. -R.J. First of all, this is NOT a debate forum. We're right and you're wrong, according to Jesus and the Holy Word of God. Please read THIS thread before making an even bigger fool of yourself.

Secondly, while the internets might seem to be "free" to you, this particular corner of the internets is a privately owned Christian forum. The rights you have on this forum are listed HERE. Please contact a Pastor immediately if you feel that any of your rights have been violated.

Finally, your unsaved opinions or tantrums are not even slightly of interest to us. We follow the Holy Word of God TO THE LETTER, and make no apologies for that. One of the most important commandments in the Bible tells us to avoid unsaved scum such as yourself. You wandered in here uninvited, and unwelcome .

If you want to debate people, THIS is the place to go.

Please make a thread of your own in the "Introductions" section of the forum, so that we can properly greet you. Tell us about yourself, your church, and how you came to find Jesus.

And if you're here to flame us, better take a look at THIS before making an even bigger ass out of yourself.

I will pray that the Holy Spirit enter you and chase the demons out of your rectum and let Jesus fill you with His Grace. If you use your God-given free will to reject Christ and His temporary death on the cross for my sins, then you are sending yourself to hellfire.
            Who Will Jesus Damn?
