This atheist comes in here all proud of having no moral compass and having no good reason to not just raise his kids without thrashing them or to treat gays like regular actual men.

It's easy to go around doing what you think is right, much harder and more noble to do what God wants until you KNOW it's right because you see it working.
Beating a kid isn't easy, especially when they cry and beg and promise to be good but God commands it and He is right. I barely have to sit down and my slippers are on my feet and one of them is making me a cup of tea. With the right amount of milk, I might add.
Same with punching out queers for Jesus. Sometimes I have to wait hours in the public toilets before one approaches me, but when he does, he knows what God thinks of queers by the time I'm done with him and how lucky he is that we must obey secular laws.
