Could it possibly mean she talks about the public library? I happen to know she was a good friend of the librarian's wife, and there is a lot of vacant space there since the Great Book Burning of 1996. Also, T.A. could mean "The Archives," as the library is called by some of our lawyers.

Good thinking. That's entirely possible. There's all that reinforced space under the building, too, from when it was the town bomb shelter during WWII.

The last I heard those basements were deemed unsafe by the Public Safety Commission, before that one set of commissioners was disbanded by the Town Council. I don't think anyone's allowed down there anymore.

Box 6-A is full of old reel-to-reel tapes, maybe of town meetings? They're not labeled.

I don't know what they are yet because I don't have the equipment to play these I'm looking online to see where I can order an old tape player like that.

Maybe old Miss Collins started dictating her minutes and notes at some point? Her handwriting is not good.

Those tapes may have been from the several years Rosemary Woods was working for the Board of Elections in the mid to late 1970s.

The problem is, I have not uncovered any clear, thorough bylaws as to just how the elections procede. The complete guidelines might be in these boxes, or they might not.

There's a notation that a 1982 vote was taken by the Town Council that the Mayor's authority reverts to the Town Council in case of death/incapacity, discharge or unavailabilty. So maybe we don't have to elect anyone? But clearly, that is only a STOP-GAP OPTION.

There's also a notation that a vote was taken as to 51% of the Council needing to be members of LBC with at least 20 years membership. The specific page with the results of that motion is missing, but the cover is stamped "Moved + Carried".

There's curious stuff about campaign finance. Each (something something?) citizen "in good standing" may contribute up to $100,000 to individual Mayoral or Town Council candidates....BUT these SAME citizens can then also contribute $50,000 during election periods as many times as they want to any number of Landover Baptist Church subgroups or clubs (for example, The Landover Baptist Church Voter Mentoring Club), for those groups to donate to a candidate in the club's name, as they see fit. (You have to be a member of a club for at least 24 consequtive hours before donating to it, discounting membership fees.) There are over 200 such groups on one list, which finishes with "1 of 6"

I need help with this.

Once we announce the election, there is 24 hours for candidates to get the primary paperwork in. Then there's some unspecified period of "public forums", vetting, followed by a debate (that must be at least sumarized in the Truth and Light) and then, finally, elections. The Mayor does not take office for at least 24 hours henceforth, to allow for recounting if necessary.

That's all I can glean so far. If Cranky will leave that tape player on the screened-in back porch, I can listen to those reel-to-reels after I go out this evening.

EDIT: Sorry, each candidate has to host a "meet and greet" BBQ, as well. I just spotted that.

It's time to say ENOUGH! And choose a pastor to watch over Freehold! A pastor watches over his flock, right? Well Freehold - all of Freehold should be a Pastor's flock! No more silly elections, simply a decision by the town's pastors as to who among them is best suited to the job.

Thank you brother, I am flattered, but I am far too busy with my ministry to get involved with running Freehold. We need a good True Christian(tm) to step up and run for the office once we clear up the details of how to proceed on the emergency election. Hopefully some patsy suitable man will be found.
