    Oklahoma 'Morality Proclamation' blames gays, porn, abortion for economic woe

    A Morality Proclamation introduced into the Oklahoma state legislature blames gays, porn and abortion for the nation's economic distress. Controversial and outspoken Sally Kern, Republican lawmaker from Oklahoma, is in the news again with a proposed Morality Proclamation for the state of Oklahoma. The document claims “abortion, pornography, same sex marriage, sex trafficking, divorce, illegitimate births, child abuse and many other forms of debauchery” is responsible for the country’s economic woes.

    To rectify the problem, Kern's “Oklahoma Citizen’s Proclamation for Morality” suggests the following solution: “BE IT RESOLVED that we, the undersigned, humbly call upon Holy God, our Creator, Sustainer, and Redeemer, to have mercy on this nation, to stay His hand of judgment, and grant a national awakening of righteousness and Christian renewal as we repent of our great sin.”

    Kern is no stranger to controversy. She is known for her anti-gay rhetoric and walking into the state capital with a semi-automatic handgun stashed in her purse. Kern is probably best known for her comparison of homosexuality to toe cancer, and her repeated claims that homosexuals are a greater threat to our nation than terrorism. Now she has ignited controversy once again with a document that blames America’s current economic crisis on “our greater national moral crisis.”

    The proclamation notes that President Obama scaled back the National Day of Prayer events but signed a proclamation declaring June as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month. The Morality Proclamation laments the president’s disregard for “the biblical admonitions to live clean and pure lives by proclaiming an entire month to an immoral behavior.” The proclamation calls for God to grant a “national awakening of righteousness and Christian renewal as we repent of our great sin.”

    It seems clear Sally Kern is on a mission to force her Christian right-wing ultra Conservative views on the rest of the world. More than that, she is using her position as an Oklahoma State Representative to do it.

    Kern is a religious bigot. Her overt homophobia is nothing short of evil. To suggest some sort of moral equivalence between same sex marriage and sex trafficking is simply outrageous. Kern is the paradigmatic Christian Conservative, an ugly, ignorant, bigot driven by superstitious non-sense.

    The Morality Proclamation is ludicrous, insulting to the intelligence, intolerant and immoral: a clear violation of the separation of church and state. More than that, it is just silly to link economic problems to moral issues.

    Kern's self righteous folly is idiotic. Her basic claim is that the economy is suffering because Americans aren't following her religious beliefs. Her solution to the nation's economic problems is to pray for national forgiveness. Such rhetoric is nothing short of political malpractice. She brings shame and ridicule to Oklahoma and Christianity.

    We the People of Oklahoma, Invoking the guidance of Almighty God, in order to secure and perpetuate the blessing of Liberty; to secure just and rightful Government; to promote our mutual Welfare and Happiness, do establish this proclamation and call upon the people of the great State of Oklahoma, and our fellow Patriots in these United States of America who look to the Lord for guidance, to acknowledge the need for a national awakening of righteousness in our land.

          Ugh, I really, really don't like this. I believe seperation of church and state to be important, but not for the usual reasons. When everyone is pressured or required to proclaim christian truths, that means that some people, though they act saved, are not. This is a very important distinction that needs to be preserved. Politicians need to be unafraid to to be honest about their views on faith-based matters, so we as True Christians know who to vote for.

          I guess what I'm trying to say is that we need a secular society, so that we can, in contrast, demonstrate our devotion to God.

              First of all, would you please have the respect to properly capitalize words like "Christian?" This is a Christian forum after all.

              Secondly, Jesus is not easily tricked. He knows who is Saved(c) and who isn't. You might want to reference THIS sermon on the subject.

                  We should demonstrate our devotion to God, but we should do so in the way that He demands. He does not need us to have a secular society so that we can look better by comparison with the unsaved:
