Here is the spirit that makes the USA great! “God, Guns, Guts and American Pick-Up Trucks.”
Single-handedly Mr Mark Muller will be responsible for the revitalization of the US Economy - to hell with stimulus packages! The citizen knows the answer!
American car dealer offers free AK-47 with every truck
Enterprising retailers in the US are rushing to offer the ultimate in discount vouchers — a free AK47 assault rifle with every purchase.
Max Motors, in Butler, Missouri, has run out of pick-up trucks after word got out of its offer of a complimentary semi-automatic weapon with every vehicle. The success of the promotion prompted a Harley-Davidson dealer and a boat and tractor dealer to set up similar offers.
Mark Muller, of Max Motors — whose business slogan is “God, Guns, Guts and American Pick-Up Trucks” — said that he had been overwhelmed by the response and had to shut the offer down prematurely.
The company sold 200 vehicles in just ten days; 100 more than normal as gun-loving customers queued to upgrade their vehicles and get their hands on a weapon that can fire 600 rounds a minute.
The customers received a voucher worth $450 (£270) to be redeemed at any local gun store. As with all gun purchases, customers have to go through routine background checks and wait three days.
“We had customers coming from all over the United States. It was very, very successful. Everyone is complaining about how bad business is but, I tell you, I simply cannot get inventory from the factories to sell. We had to cancel the promotion today. We just had the best month we have had in 18 months,” Mr Muller told The Times.
Mr Muller, 49, made no apology for offering guns as an incentive in the same week that the US was reeling from another multiple shooting. George Sodini killed three women and injured nine more when he walked into a gym in Pittsburgh on Monday night, pulled two guns out of his duffel bag and shot indiscriminately into a group taking Latin dance lessons.
Mr Muller, a passionate gun owner, said: “I am a country dealer. We are kind of old-fashioned Americans who believe in liberty and our constitution and we like to defend our rights.”
Gun enthusiasts from across America have been concerned that President Obama will seek to tighten the rules on ownership. That, and a general fear of rising crime in bad economic times, has resulted in a rush for new gun licence applications. In Clay County, where Max Motors is located, applications in the first half of this year matched the total for 2008.
A dealership in South Carolina has come up with its own twist on the idea: buy a tractor and get a free AK47. “We live in a semi-rural area and law enforcement is not always available,” said Henry Jordan, a partner in Carolina Tractor and Marine in Anderson.
Mr Jordan said that the AK47 was a “very effective” weapon. “It’s very popular in this part of the country,” he added.
The dealership has already handed out vouchers for the weapon with a ride-on lawnmower and four tractors and plans to run the promotion until early September.
Such promotions have been criticised by anti-gun groups. Peter Hamm, communications director for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, said: “It’s one-stop shopping for drive-by shooters. We think this kind of stuff is drivel. These dealers are encouraging people to get a weapon whose only purpose is to kill large numbers of people quickly.”
A similar promotion has also been offered by a Harley-Davidson dealer in Washington State. Eastside Harley-Davidson gave away a $500 voucher for a handgun redeemable at a local gun store. The store posted a video clip on its website that said: “Our government guarantees certain rights, one of which is the right to bear arms. Eastside Harley-Davidson is adding to that list — the right to a new Harley.”
Back in Missouri, Mr Muller is planning a new offer for next year’s voucher. “I have got something way bigger, way better than anyone has seen before. Can I give you a hint? It’s big — and yeah, it’s weaponry. We love weapons,” he said.
