Sometimes I get really mad at people who call US extremists!

SAMBALPUR: A 19-year-old girl chopped off her tongue inside a Shiva temple and offered it to the god at Jhar village in Bargarh. She did so to invoke the god's blessings to marry the person she desired instead of the match fixed by her parents. The temple priest found her lying in the temple with blood on her face on Tuesday morning. She told the priest about the incident.

"I was shocked to see her lying on the temple floor in the morning. She was bleeding from her face. She had chopped her tongue with a blade and offered it to the god," priest of the temple Basudev Mohapatra told TOI.

Villagers rushed to the temple when the news spread. They tried to take her to the hospital but she refused. "We tried to take her to the nearby hospital but she refused to go anywhere," villager Narayan Meher said.

The girl was not willing to marry the match fixed by her parents because he was much older than her. She was interested to marry a younger boy.

This is a perfect example of what a dunce is. By cutting off her tongue, how she expected to say yes at the altar? Next thing you know, she will cut off her arm and sacrifice it to have kids?

This has raised the bar of stupidity to a new level that I have never seen.

Not to disagree with you, brethren, but perhaps this is for the better. I know that for me, personally, one of the only things holding me back from marrying a woman is the fact that I don't want to put up with her nonsense 24/7. "Do I look fat in this?", "Why don't you ever take me out?", "How come you spend so much time with Pastor Zeke?", "Why aren't you ever intimate with me?", etc. A woman's job isn't to nag her husband into an early grave: in fact, I suspect that all the stress that a woman puts on her husband often discourages "relations" for mating and whatnot. Maybe this will help the husband to focus on more important things that hearing about what inane things went on in her day and what her "concerns" might be. But that could just be me -- I am an eternal optimist.

I think she did the right thing for the wrong reason. You don't maim yourself to commit the sin of dishonoring your parents; you maim yourself to prevent yourself from sinning:

Matt. 5:29-30: And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast [it] from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not [that] thy whole body should be cast into hell. Now, without her tongue, she can no longer give any back-talk to her parents.

Exactly. And even mainstream secular science admits that women live longer than men by an average of about 5 years. The reason being, of course, is that men have to put up with the stressful nagging of their wives over their years, which causes them to have more health problems.
