Back in the "old days", dogs ate real bones and the calcium from them would make their waste turn grey when it dried. Today's commercial dog food is loaded with filler like rice and corn instead of real meat and bone and organs.

As for why quantum mechanics is crucial to understanding the dynamics of weather: the behavior of atoms and molecules are governed by quantum mechanics; given enough data about each air molecule in the atmosphere at any given time, their respective wave functions can be calculated and combined. The end result is a superposition of wave functions that describes their movement, temperature, etc (i.e. WEATHER)
