I think the point is that science cannot be certain about anything. The idea of tentativity is science is fundemental because there is always the possibility of new information necessitating a repositioning or even paradigm shift.

That is the exact opposite of the Bible(KJV1611). God's word does not change and so we will NEVER get more, newer information and so the Biblical position can make absolute statements.

The Biblical perspective is one of extreme positivism vs the scientifical vague constructionsist stand point that is too subjective for people who genuinely want to find an absolute truth.

Hiding behind definitions is not very constructive. The philosophical positivism underpinning belief in God conforms to Occam's Razor by not adding extraneous entities to the mix where as science's social constructionism postulates that EVERY ONE defines their own subjective reality.

That's a potential 7 billion hypothetical extraneous entities vs religions one: God.

Well, some people accept that there is no absolute truth or if there was, that we wouldn't know. That's hard for some people to accept, just as it is hard for secular scientists to accept Christianity.

I won't spout Bible verse at you 'cause I figure that won't reach you but think about faith being the conduit for knowledge of God.

Why does a Christian need to think when he BELIEVES?

Believing and obeying is far more important to Christians than thinking for one's self.

Science tells us water does not spontaneously become wine, the surface tension of water at stp cannot support a man's weight, dead bodies do not return to life without significant cognitive impairment.

But the Bible tells me all these things are factually correct. Therefore using my own not inconsiderable reasoning powers to question any (no matter how minor) part of the Bible would be as anti God as all to get out. As a Christian it would be a BIG 'no no'.

That's why replacing my intellectual reasoning power with a dogmatic belief in the literal truth of the Bible allows me to reconcile my otherwise intense cognitive dissonance.

Does that make any sense?
