My sincere congratulations to all the LBC members who keep educating outsiders who come on to this thread.

In reviewing the thread, it is almost like a college course that brings together the theology of the flat earth with practical ideas about how to prove that it is true. Anyone with even the smallest amount of intellect can see we at Landover Baptist are correct about the shape of the earth.

God has given us a blessed gift when He provided us with the wherewithall to understand this issue.

Considering the prove of the flashlight on a piece of paper/desk:
If the sun acts like that, why is the sky arround the sun blue and not dark?
Do the test again, and you will see that all air arround the flashlight(except the air lightened by the beam) is dark. Even when looking directly into the flashlight, you see the air arround it is dark.

Try to be straightlined. Someone stated that the sun is only 500 miles above our heads will someone else says it is very far away (Lisa)

In this episode, God is killing just about everyone by drowning, and simultaneously opens the windows of heaven and the fountains of the deep so that water rushes down from above the sky and up around the edges, sufficient to cover all the mountains. Not some of the mountains. All of the mountains. That would require over a billion cubic miles of water.

Indeed, the theory, it has been rewritten tons of times, but only because better ideas/proof was provided. The bible has been rewritten to keep it alive (as a script), not because someone decided he had a better/more accurate version of it. Hence you cannot compare that.

I drive 300 miles each day so i know how much 500 is. If the sun would be at that distance, how big you think the cone of light would be on the earth? If it is 500 miles then you would have to much timezones. If is is more, how much more? And why?

That's not what i intended.
You know that we can only see color when it is lit by a light.
Now when the sun acts like a flashlight, the sky left and right from the flashlight is not lit, so it should be dark. But it is not.
So either: the sun does not work as a flashlight and so it does not explain timeszones vs earth is flat theory
or
Something else is illuminating the sky, that being what?

The Bible does not need to be updated because it is right. Unlike the spherical earth theory.

Of course the balloon is proof, why else would it be used. Just because these two may interfere with the experiment does not mean it is invalid. If you have done any science experiments you would know you must remove such variables. All science experiments have variables removed, like using clean non contaminated equipment.

Everyone with a brain knows the earth is flat.

English writer Samuel Rowbotham (1816–1885), writing under the pseudonym "Parallax," produced a pamphlet called Zetetic Astronomy in 1849 arguing for a flat Earth and published results of many experiments that tested the curvatures of water over a long drainage ditch, followed by another called The inconsistency of Modern Astronomy and its Opposition to the Scripture.

EXAMINATION OF THE SO-CALLED "PROOFS" OF THE EARTH'S ROTUNDITY.--WHY A SHIP'S HULL DISAPPEARS BEFORE THE MAST-HEAD.

The Bedford Level Experiment is a series of observations carried out along a six-mile length of the Old Bedford River on the Bedford Level, Norfolk, England, during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. It was an attempt to demonstrate that the Earth was flat. Early results seemed to prove this contention.

Method

At the point chosen for all the experiments the river is a slow-flowing drainage canal running in an uninterrupted straight line for a six-mile stretch to the north-east of the village of Welney. The most famous of the observations, and the one that was taught in schools until photographs of the Earth from space became available,[1][2] involved a set of three poles fixed at equal height above water level along this length. As the surface of the water was assumed to be level, the discovery that the middle pole, when viewed carefully through a theodolite, being higher than the other two poles, would prove that the earth is round.


The first investigation was carried out by Samuel Birley Rowbotham (1816–1884), in the summer of 1838. He waded into the river and used a telescope held eight inches above the water to watch a boat with a five-foot mast row slowly away from him. He reported that the vessel remained constantly in his view for the full six miles to Welney bridge, whereas, had the water surface been curved with the accepted circumference of a spherical earth, the top of the mast should have been some eleven feet below his line of sight. He published this discovery under the title Zetetic Astronomy using the pseudonym Parallax in 1849 and subsequently expanded it into a book published in 1865.



On 11 May 1904 Lady Elizabeth Anne Blount hired a commercial photographer to use a telephoto lens camera to take a picture from Welney of a large white sheet she had placed, touching the surface of the river, at Rowbotham's original position six miles away. The photographer, Edgar Clifton from Dallmeyer's studio, mounted his camera two feet above the water at Welney and was surprised to be able to obtain a picture of the target, which should have been invisible to him given the low mounting point of the camera. Lady Blount published the pictures far and wide and these have not been explained.


The most recent world model propagated by the Flat Earth Society holds that humans live on a disc, with the North Pole at its center and a 150-foot (45 m) high wall of ice at the outer edge.[18] The resulting map resembles the symbol of the United Nations, which Johnson used as evidence for his position.[19] In this model, the sun and moon are each a mere 32 miles (52 km) in diameter.[20]


Flat Earth News

William Carpenter, a printer originally from Greenwich, England, was a supporter of Rowbotham and published Theoretical Astronomy Examined and Exposed - Proving the Earth not a Globe in eight parts from 1864 under the name Common Sense. He later emigrated to Baltimore where he published A hundred proofs the Earth is not a Globe in 1885.[99] He argues that:

• "There are rivers that flow for hundreds of miles towards the level of the sea without falling more than a few feet — notably, the Nile, which, in a thousand miles, falls but a foot. A level expanse of this extent is quite incompatible with the idea of the Earth's convexity. It is, therefore, a reasonable proof that Earth is not a globe."
• "If the Earth were a globe, a small model globe would be the very best - because the truest - thing for the navigator to take to sea with him. But such a thing as that is not known: with such a toy as a guide, the mariner would wreck his ship, of a certainty!, This is a proof that Earth is not a globe."

A hundred proofs the Earth is not a Globe

In Brockport, N.Y, in 1887, M.C. Flanders argued the case of a flat Earth for three nights against two scientific gentlemen defending sphericity. Five townsmen chosen as judges voted unanimously for a flat Earth at the end. The case was reported in the Brockport Democrat.



Prof' Joe Holden of Maine, a former justice of the peace, gave numerous lectures in New England and lectured on flat Earth theory at the Columbian Exposition in Chicago. His fame stretched to North Carolina where the Statesville Semi-weekly Landmark recorded at his death in 1900: 'We hold to the doctrine that the earth is flat ourselves and we regret exceedingly to learn that one of our members is dead'.



After Rowbotham's death, Lady Elizabeth Blount created the Universal Zetetic Society in 1893 in England and created a journal called Earth not a Globe Review, which sold for twopence, as well as one called Earth which only lasted from 1901 to 1904. She held that the Bible was the unquestionable authority on the natural world and argued that one could not be a Christian and believe the Earth to be a globe. Well-known members included E. W. Bullinger of the Trinitarian Bible Society, Edward Haughton, senior moderator in natural science in Trinity College, Dublin and an archbishop. She repeated Rowbotham's experiments, generating some interesting counter-experiments, but interest declined after the First World War.



Wilbur Glenn Voliva, who in 1906 took over the Christian Catholic Church, a Pentecostal sect that established a utopian community at Zion, Illinois, preached flat Earth doctrine from 1915 onwards and used a photograph of a twelve mile stretch of the shoreline at Lake Winnebago, Wisconsin taken three feet above the waterline to prove his point. When the airship Italia disappeared on an expedition to the North Pole in 1928 he warned the world's press that it had sailed over the edge of the world.



In 1956, Samuel Shenton set up the International Flat Earth Research Society, better known as the Flat Earth Society, as a direct descendant of the Universal Zetetic Society, just before the Soviet Union launched the first artificial satellite, Sputnik. He responded to this event "Would sailing round the Isle of Wight prove that it were spherical? It is just the same for those satellites."


Shenton's role was taken over by one of his correspondents, Charles K. Johnson, as he retired in 1972 to the Mohave Desert, California. He incorporated the IFERS and steadily built up the membership to about 3,000. He spent years examining the studies of flat and round Earth theories and proposed evidence of a conspiracy against flat-Earth: "The idea of a spinning globe is only a conspiracy of error that Moses, Columbus, and FDR all fought…" His article was published in the magazine Science Digest, 1980. It goes on to state,

• "If it is a sphere, the surface of a large body of water must be curved. The Johnsons have checked the surfaces of Lake Tahoe and the Salton Sea (a shallow salt lake in southern California near the Mexican border) without detecting any curvature."[109]
