So the Bible should be read metaphorically? You mean to say that, "Honor they mother and father" should mean, "Get away with whatever you want to. It's all metaphor anyway."

Do tell me more about this non-literal interpretation of yours. What parts do you follow? What parts do you throw out? Who decides what to follow and what not to?

        You Godless sinner!

2nd Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Proverbs 30:5-6 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him; Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

I highly doubt you have ever even read the Ten Commandments, much less take them literally. Maybe six of them, but I doubt you follow all ten.

Exodus 20 3Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
            5Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
6And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
7Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
8Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
11For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
12Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
            13Thou shalt not kill.
            14Thou shalt not commit adultery.
            15Thou shalt not steal.
16Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
17Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

What are the two things Jesus said were most important? I'll help you out here.

            Matthew 22:35-40
35Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,
36Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38This is the first and great commandment.
39And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Did Jesus just make those up? No, He didn't. Jesus is quoting the Old Testament!

Deuteronomy 6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

Leviticus 19:18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.

So perhaps you might want to redefine what you take literally and don't? Or maybe you would like to actually define what you take literally or not and how you come to that decision.

This is one of the most pointless statements I heard recently; those mortal beings writing the Holy Bible were nothing else but God’s tools - like a typewriter is to a typist or better to a wise man dictating her.

So basically God isn't literally real as He is portrayed in the Bible, then?

Why should anyone give credence to a God you made up?

I am a Baptist and honestly, this topic is embarrassing to the Christian faith as a whole.

Just because someone disagrees with you on the topic of a flat Earth does not in any way mean they are atheist. His wording may not have been the best, but he is right in a way.

Anyone who agrees with the views presented in this topic are the ones who are blindly following. You may argue that is what faith is, but if that's the case, then you must understand and respect the opposing view's "faith" in science (even though it is not "faith" on science's part, it's proven fact).

Our universe is governed by many laws we cannot change--physical phenomena that happen just because they happen. Yes, God created the universe, but being the almighty and intelligent God that he is, of course it would make sense that he would create laws as such to make things flow nicely. It's like computer programming--you code something once, and you try to make use of it as much as possible.

Gravity is not "made up." Although we cannot fully understand why it happens, it DOES happen. You argue against "round" Earth by saying anyone in Australia would fall off the planet? The reason they don't "fall off" is because of the Earth's pull. Your experiment to disprove gravity would actually prove gravity in a different inertial reference frame. The reason it doesn't work on Earth is because the Earth's pull on the piece of paper is still greater than the balloon's pull on the piece of paper. In space, away from any other massive object, the piece of paper would orbit the balloon. Another thing I would like to point out is that the balloon's mass isn't huge. It's actually quite small. Just because it's diameter is large does not mean it has a large mass. It's a piece of rubber full of air, which has very low mass. Size does not equal mass.

As for the truck experiment, try it again in a train. If you jump while on a moving train, do you go flying though the back of the train? Not at all. In the ideal situation, an object moving with any sort of velocity will keep moving with the same velocity and never stop until acted upon by an outside force. In most cases on Earth, air resistance is the main outside force. On the truck, that may be why it wouldn't work. But on a train (or even on an enclosed truck, where the 60mph winds aren't pushing you), you jump up, and you land in the same exact spot, even though the train/truck is moving. Also, the reason you don't just keep flying upwards after you jump is due to the Earth's pull on you. Once you jump, you are being pulled back to the ground at 9.8 meters per second. If gravity didn't exist, you'd never stop going upwards until some other force acted upon you.

For the third experiment, again, it actually proves the opposite of what you are intending for it to prove. You just need to get high enough. The earth is such a large object that you obviously will not be able to notice curvature on the surface. If you elevate yourself high enough, you indeed WILL be able to see the curvature. The reason you are ever not able to see past a certain point is because of the horizon line. On a round object, you obviously won't be able to see things on the other side. If you go high enough into the atmosphere, you will not be able to see forever. There will be a limit, and you will see the effects of the curvature.

Flat Earth believers, please use your eyes and observe the world you live in. It was indeed created by the one almighty God, and it is a beautiful piece of work, but it was not created to disprove the laws of nature that God himself also put into place.

Wrong. One of two things would happen quite quickly:

                            1) The vinyl in the balloon would freeze in the near-absolute zero ( -273 degrees Celsius, -453 degrees Farhenheit) and shatter.

                            2) The balloon would explode in the near-perfect vacuum of space.

I can assure you that the piece of paper would definitely NOT orbit the balloon, as the balloon would cease to exist as a balloon.

                            Please stop spreading your ignorance.

You know what I meant. The reasons the balloon would cease to exist as a balloon have no relevance to the thought experiment I posed, i.e. I don't care that the gases inside the rubber casing would expand and rip the balloon. The principle is that any object with any sort of mass has gravitational pull.

And I just love how you seem to take one sentence from my whole reply and ignore the rest, then call me arrogant. Says quite a bit about yourself.
