We know the Earth is flat because the Bible tells us so. But for those of you skeptical, close-minded types that flat out refuse to accept the overwhelming Biblical evidence, I have designed some experiments you can do at home that will show you, before your very eyes, that the world is indeed flat, and not spherical as some crazy scientists proclaim.


1) Jump!

To better simulate why this isn't a good test. Toss a ball upwards while driving your car in a straight line. Rather than fly backwards at the speed equivalent to the speed the car is traveling, it acts as if completely still because it has the same direction of motion as the car itself and therefore, is at rest relative to the car, even when moving relative to the road. You won't fall off the Earth because you are continuing to move at the same speed at the rest of the planet in the same direction as the rest of the planet.

2) Blow!

This also is a flawed test, because the ratio of the weight of the balloon to the weight of the paper is totally inconsistent with the Earth and objects on it, and also neglects the gravitational attraction of the Earth.

3) Get High!

The Curvature of the Earth IS visible at a certain altitude. Ask any passenger who flew on the Concorde.

Anyway, I've seen a number of these kinds of discussions here. My objections remain the same.

1) The property of a 24 hour day/night cycle undertaken through gradual shifts in the apparent position of the sun cannot be effectively explained through a flat Earth without the sun being much closer and the atmosphere much thicker to cause sufficient refraction.

2) The sun produces relativistic effects on traveling light from distant stars proving that it has substantial mass. Space time bends around the sun, as is consistent with Einstein's predictions. This means that either the Earth must be either much more massive (impossible given a lower gravitational force on Earth), or would throw the entire theory into doubt.

3) An object with the surface area of the Earth cannot exist in a zero gravity environment due to a lack of hydrostatic equilibrium. It must force itself into a sphere due to the distributive effects of the gravitational force.

We have discussed this in another thread. The sun is indeed much closer than what atheistic fringe science attests to. We know for a fact that the sun is no more than 500 miles away. Therefore this point is moot.

Okay that didn't make any sense. You just used complicated terms and tossed them together in a word salad. I don't see how "spacetime" can even bend around the sun. For one thing, the sun sits in space. There's no bending. Second, space and time are two different things. "Give me some space" and "give me some time" have completely different meanings.

Actually since the Law of Gravity is "What goes up must come down", it makes sense that Earth is shaped like a pancake. Think about this: Say you have a spherical ball of clay. Now your hand represents gravitational force. Press down with your palm on the clay. Notice how it starts flattening? Keep pressing. Eventually it will no longer be a sphere, but flat like a pancake. Earth's gravitational field pushes down on it and causes it to be flat.

first, jump straight up in the air, if the earth is moving like people say it is, you would be a few hundred feet back, this. is not true, his example was "if you jump up on the bed of a truck going 75mph then you would fly off and hit the road.
this my friends, is not true, you see, you people do not know how things work in the world, have ANY of you tried jumping up in the bed of a truck moving at 75 mph? you havnt, or else you would know that you would just fall back into the truck.

see, when your in the truck, you, as well as the truck are both traveling at 75mph, since yoru riding in it, and when you jump, you are still traveling at 75mph, so you are going at the same speed as the truck.
so when you jump, your traveling at 75mph above the truck, so you fall back in it.

second, take a ballon blow it up, (represents earth) and ri off the tiniest peice of paper you can get ( represents humans) well first off, you cant rip a peice of paper tiny enough to represent a human, becuase, if you put it on the balloon, you can still see it right? but if you go look at pictures of earth, you CANT see humans can you?
of course you'll say "the pictures are fake so thats irrelevant"
but now, see, in order for something to have gravity, it has to have MASS, density? weight? a balloon has no weight, and you have to have an ENOURMOUS mass, to create gravitational pulls, so really, that entire test is out, becuase you cant recreate a model of earth and people with a balloon and paper.

third, look around, see as far as you can see, then go to a higher point and look again, you can see farther right?

well what happens if you get on top of the highest point in the world?
like mt. fuji in japan?

does that mean you could see your house from there with a telescope?
no, go try it. oh wait, you cant, becuase it wont happen,

all of the "tests" have NOT been proved, but simply fabricated.

If you had bothered to read the thread (none of you trolls ever bother) you would of noticed that I tried putting the piece of paper on a balloon, then a child's ball and then a Jolly ball. It seemed that the larger the ball I used, the easier the piece of paper fell off, so that disproves your theory as a Jolly ball has a lot more density(mass) than a balloon.
