Re: Is Landover Baptist Church a CULT?

    The church may be fine and dandy, but I would just like to point out a few things, especially about the forums;

A destructive cult tends to be totalitarian in its control of its members' behavior. (Cults are likely to dictate in great detail on how members think and speak.Aka, infractions and banning posters on what they say instead of leaving them be for the Lord to see and sort out.)

A destructive cult tends to have an ethical double standard. Members are urged to be obedient to the cult, to carefully follow cult rules. (Again, don't post anything out of the ordinary or you will be infracted/banned)

A destructive cult has only two basic purposes: recruiting new members and fund-raising. (It is condradicting itself with what you say "Jesus directed us to go forth and spread the Good News to all nations, and to win souls to follow Him, by any means necessary!". That is clearly recruitment. Whether it's Jesus gathering people to spread the word, or me gathering people to tell others how awesome chocolate bars are, it is still a form of recruitment.)

A destructive cult appears to be innovative and exclusive. (You claim this to be the only true church/faith, again a contradiction. No church is exclusive as they are all fragments of a total picture. ...."and we don't exclude anyone." Why do I keep getting infracted? Instead of teaching me you infract/ban me, that is clearly turning someone away. Give me a reason(s) to see why this is the only true church and true faith.)

A destructive cult is authoritarian in its power structure. (The mods really need to lay off on the bannings. They practice Pride every time they do so and this is for their own sake. Let the blasphemers post their posts, leave them there for God to see, and let Him sort them out)

I look forward to an infraction notice. I bet you anything I will get one Or will you leave this be, turn the other cheek, and supply words of calm, reasoning, and support?

      You lose.

There is absolutely nothing cultish about our church. We turn away more members than we accept, and we are 100% supported by scripture in everything we say.

Now then. What, exactly IN SCRIPTURE do you disagree with?

You are not interested in learning. You are here to mock Jesus. You are turning away from Christ''s loving message.

OK, we'll be happy to discuss our church.

A destructive cult tends to be totalitarian in its control of its members' behavior. (Cults are likely to dictate in great detail on how members think and speak.Aka, infractions and banning posters on what they say instead of leaving them be for the Lord to see and sort out.)
As long as he doesn't contradict the Bible, a True Christian™ can say and do what he pleases.

A destructive cult tends to have an ethical double standard.
Members are urged to be obedient to the cult, to carefully follow cult rules. (Again, don't post anything out of the ordinary or you will be infracted/banned)
I'm not sure how that differs from the first test you mentioned. We don't have a double standard, we believe that everyone should live by God's Commandments as expressed in the Holy Bible.

A destructive cult has only two basic purposes: recruiting new members
and fund-raising.
First, Jesus did not tell us to go forth and spread the Good News by any means necessary. He told us to preach the Gospel. That's what we do. A lot of people don't want to hear what the Bible really has to say, they just want to hear the "nice" parts. That's their choice, they can listen to Joel Osteen instead of us if they want, but they'll burn in Hell because of it. Anyway, our church has a three year wait list for membership, and a very stringent screening process (about one person in 20 passes). Does that sound like a church that's main purpose is recruiting new members?

As for money, God told us to tithe, so we tithe. It's our choice, so I don't see why that bothers you so much.

We aren't innovative. We haven't had an original theological thought since 1611, when the King James Bible was printed. Everything we believe is found within its pages.

We don't claim to be the only true church. There are at least a dozen other Baptist churches in America that believe in the Bible the way that we do. So there are the other fragments of the total picture.

The moderators infract you because you keep challenging the Bible. This is a church site, it's not the public comments section of a youtube video.

As for being exclusive, I guess we're guilty as charged. The Bible tells us not to sit down to dinner with the unsaved, and we take it seriously. But I don't see how you can say that we're both exclusive and focused on recruitment. It's got to be one or the other.

A destructive cult is authoritarian in its power structure. (The mods really need to lay off on the bannings. They practice Pride every time they do so and this is for their own sake. Let the blasphemers post their posts, leave them there for God to see, and let Him sort them out)
Who are you to tell the moderators what to do? It sounds like you're the authoritarian, not us, coming into our church to tell us how to run things. Our moderators will ban whom they please, when they please, and they're not going to run it by you for your consent.

I look forward to an infraction notice. I bet you anything I will get one Or will you leave this be, turn the other cheek, and supply words of calm, reasoning, and support?
You mean the kind of calm, reasoning, and support that Jesus offered in Matthew 10:34?

Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. Matthew 10:34

I suppose we can do that.

Pour out thy fury upon the heathen that know thee not, and upon the families that call not on thy name.... Jeremiah 10:25

May you be a blessing to every life you touch.
