A Manhattan pub owner has committed what some might call a blasphemy unparalleled in human history: banning the song "Danny Boy" from being played anywhere on the premises for the entire month of March.

And why might anyone want to ban so fine an Irish tune (except for the fact that its words were written by an Englishman), this being so close a time to St. Patrick's Day and all?

Well, says pub owner Shaun Clancy, the song's a stone downer.

Clancy, it is reported, said, "St. Patrick's Day is supposed to be a happy day. Do we have to sing a song that says, 'Come and visit me when I'm dead'? "

The Scots were a Gaelic speaking people who came from the north of Ireland to the country that now bears their name. Scotland for those who can't work it out. You could claim that we were all one people but that would seem to discount quite a large part of the history of the islands.

You will find that in Northern Ireland there are both Protestants and Catholics. That would be the reason for the troubles.

BibleThumpinBlonde, if you are going to cite something as "proof" of a point of view it tends to help if it actually has relevance. Although even if the people in the clip were Irish I would have serious doubts about a comedy show as evidence of anything.
