Since rape is a form of assault, I think it would only be fair to be a little more understanding of the poor girl's hesitation. While the pregnancy puts a ticking clock on the whole situation, it seems like giving her time to recover from the ordeal is an important step. Now, perhaps I missed this, because this is a very lengthy thread and I don't remember all of it, but is everyone certain that the rapist WANTS to marry the girl? Is the rapist a stranger or someone she knows? All of this factors into how one should approach this very delicate situation.

They should get married as soon as possible! Do you want her poor child to be born a bastard?

That is completely irrelevant. The rapist is forced to marry the girl as punishment for the rape. God does not like rapists and put a clear punishment in the Bible. Not only should he marry the girl, but he is never allowed to divorce her as well. God clearly does not take rape lightly!

Deuteronomy 22:28-29 "If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found; Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days."

How else could the rapist atone for his insult to the girl's father?

I understand what you all are saying. I know that they will have to get married. The original poster was inquiring specifically on how to approach the situation in the most effective manner. Therefore while such circumstances as the willingness of both parties and their prior relationship may be irrelevant to the eventual outcome, it will definitely be important when deciding how to best approach rectifying the delicate situation.

To you specifically, Pastor Ezekiel, I apologize that my post went as far as to warrant me negative reputation. I did not intend to come across as a "feminazi" or even a run-of-the-mill feminist. I was merely addressing the OP's question about whether he should be more subtle or upfront in his conversation with the reluctant girl. And, like I said, the more effective method will depend on the specifics of the situation.

Friends,

I recently received a letter from a concerned parent. In the letter she told me that her daughter had been raped, but was refusing to marry her rapist as per Deuteronomy 22:28-29. The stupid girl actually wants to press charges on the man!

Not only that, but that she also plans to kill the poor unborn baby her rapist had given her! Sickening! Have young people today got NO morals?

Any and all advice on what I can say to convince this girl to do the right thing would be great. Should I start with the basics ?

"Whore, you'll burn in Hell for all eternity - unless you marry your rapist"??

Or should I go for a more subtle approach??

Well Obviously None of you have been held down and had a penis forced into one of your orfices, or maybe you should then we would see how much you would want to marry your rapist. I really hope when one of you gets caught "fornicating" with your cousins/children/goats that if the law smight you it not be by marrying your kin but (that's more of a punishment for the rest of us) but that you may go to a prision in the south where the inmates with children dont look so kindly on small minded men like you that perpetuate intolerance in our world. What angers me is that people who call themselves christians embrace ignorance and fear instead of the love of jesus. Jesus wouldnt rape anyone or make HIS daughter marry her rapist, and if he would then I wouldnt want to be one of his children :S
