Author says: Don't give your kids praise, given them the fear of God.

I really like it when someone writes a book going against the current conventional wisdom.

This author says that when kids are told how great they are, given trophies and awards for doing nothing, they get into their teens thinking they are important. They think they don't need Jesus.

Instead of all that praise, the author says, give them a good smack with a belt and some good old Bible scripture. They will be happy to go to church and praise God just for a break:

A new book by Pastor Ted Cunningham, the author of parenting books such as Great Parents, Lousy Lovers and Young and in Love, has put out a new work that teaches parents that the greatest mission ...
Isaiah 24:1-3 Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty (2)...as the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him. (3) The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken his word.

Absolutely! When I was a Papist I used to praise my boys all the time; because what catholic has ever read the Bible? They were never out from under my feet and always competing pridefully for recognition for this stupid drawing or that scrawled nonsense in their school books.

Now I am actually a Christian I beat the fear of God into them and I get some peace. They no longer do all that tiresome nagging for approval because it's Jesus they aim to please (or they feel the back of my hand). God's wisdom is writ large on our everyday experience when we follow His word.

Shout GLORY for their little saved souls.

      Excellent finding there, brother!

Here are a few actual examples of the horrors that emerge in families not using the rod of correction (yes, I've seen all of these with my own eyes):
      • Chatterboxes who can not be stopped in any other way than to hit them in the stomach
      • Stupid girls threatening with committing suicide to get attention.
      • Texting addicts who get freaked out if someone doesn't respond to text message within a few minutes.
      • Stupid teen feminists who whine about "men thinking about sex every five minutes"
      • Welfare whores who put more effort into finding illegal or semi-illegal ways to receive more benefits than actually searching for a job.
      • Lazy bums expecting other to drive them around for free (not even paying gas)
      • Dependent wimps who freak out if they have to spend a single evening on their own.

All of these plagues where non-existent or rare before liebrals started messing with parents God-given right to spank their own kids.

Oh indeed! Why, I can't recall the last time I praised my children and I know for a fact Mr. Etheldreda never has. There will be no spoiled Etheldreda children if we can help it!

Some tips I would share with young mothers:
        • Whenever possible, say "No." This not only keeps them from being spoiled, it also gives them the opportunity to practice how to deal with the real world and the grip Satan has on it. Children who whine or fuss when told "No" can use this as a learning opportunity. One of our favorite lessons we use when a child fusses is to increase their chores by 150%, work in the neighborhood for free, provide extra labor for the pastors' choosing, in addition to copying pertinent verses from the Bible to remind them what happens to people who do not love the LORD. They loose any privileges they might have earned for the week. I'll tell you, my children know better than to whine! They all have smiles on their faces all the time!
        • When a child makes a mistake, don't loose the opportunity to teach them. I like to magnify the appropriate behavior when the inappropriate behavior was chosen. For example, when my very young children make an accident in their pants they are instructed to go to the front yard where the hose is, remove the offending clothes, wash themselves and then the clothes with an old washboard, and dry them in the sun before being allowed back into the house (bad luck for them if it's overcast or raining). And when the neighbors stare, it simply helps the children learn the message that much faster.
        • Keep them on a tight schedule and make no exceptions. Bedtime is at 7:30 for the younger ones, 8:00When a child makes a mistake, don't loose the opportunity to teach them. for all others, no exception. Lights out means no more talking, no fidgeting, no reading with tiny lights. Non family outings, such as birthday parties or movies with friends, must accommodate our schedule or be politely declined. There are no breeches in the Etheldreda schedule . Organization was the first task of the LORD when creating this universe, and I'll be darned if we don't honor that by being organized ourselves.
        • Children should be kept within sight at all times until they are old enough to be trusted alone. This begins generally around age 12 when "alone" starts off "in the other room, out of sight." This can last from 15 - 18 months if done right. It matters not that friends who meet at the movie theater don't bring their entire families, or that the boys come into the women's public restroom with me and the babies until they are around 12 or 13 years old and deemed safe and responsible enough to go into the men's room in a Buddy System. Boys who are embarrassed to be Christians and moral citizens are boys who need an attitude adjustment.

I didn't get my Tomato Staking medal for nothing, and I'm proud to say nothing has ever happened to any of my children. They are quiet, courteous, and hard working children who know the LORD and their obligation to obey Him first and foremost by obeying their parents upon request the first time, with a smile on their little faces. Or else.
