I am not sure how to begin this, I am still shocked.
Last night, I had shortened the work day of “Boy” my faithful retainer, to 8 pm and, after he had served dinner and departed, I watched Mrs. Bathfire take the dishes to the kitchen.
I had settled down to a brandy and cigar, when the most remarkable thing happened in many years of marriage; Mrs Bathfire returned after a while and announced, “Ezekiel, I want you in the kitchen; those dishes will not wipe themselves!”
I was completely discombobulated! A woman, ordering me into a kitchen! The End of Times was surely upon one of us, if not both!
I called out, “Are you mad woman, do you realize the gravity of your alleged command! Have you taken leave of your senses?”
To which the reply came,
“2Ki:21:13: And I will stretch over Jerusalem the line of Samaria, and the plummet of the house of Ahab: and I will wipe Jerusalem as a man wipeth a dish, wiping it, and turning it upside down.” [her emphasis]
I wiped the dishes… Dear Lord, it is a horrible, mindless task, fit only for a woman or servant. I cannot see that The Lord Almighty wants this to happen next year; any advice is welcome.
