Bankrupt Crystal Cathedral sold to Pederasts for $57 million

I don't know too much about the Reformed Church from which Crystal Cathedral sprang, but they must not take their faith very seriously, as evidenced by the following paragraph in the above-linked article:

The board chose the diocese to preserve the church as a religious institution, citing church bylaws and a desire to honor the donors who contributed to the church’s construction.

Meaning they don't care what kind of religious institution the church becomes, because, hey, one religion is just as good as any other, right?

Another excerpt from the article:

“It will become a true center for our Catholic community in Orange County,” Bishop Tod D. Brown told reporters after the hearing in federal bankruptcy court, the Associated Press reported.

It's a shame that Crystal Cathedral wasn't run by Baptists, because any Baptist minister worth his salt, upon hearing Bishop Brown's offer to buy the church, would have looked him straight in the eye and recited (from memory) the following passage:

John 8:44

Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

It seems to me, the Catholics are cashing in on a lack of faith in California. Here's the part that really cuts deep tho:

In a sermon just a week after filing for bankruptcy, Robert H. Schuller pleaded with his congregation for help. "I need more help from you," Schuller said, according to the Orange County Register. "If you are a tither, become a double-tither. If you are not a tither, become a tither."

I only wish I were in Freehold so I could tithe this Sunday. I'm really pumped right now, I want to double-tithe. Where can I send the check?

It turns out that old Bob Schuller appointed his daughter, Sheila Schuller Coleman, to be senior pastor of this church in July 2010. By October of the same year the cathedral was proclaiming bankruptcy. I guess this is why the bible says:

1 Timothy 2:12
But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

OR a more likely scenario is:

Old Bob just pocketed all the cash and left his daughter holding the bag...

It looks like a wonderful building. I see it only went for $57,000,000, I would have thought that there was enough in the Landover tithing account to have covered this. It could have been a nice acquisition for Landover.

This is yet another example of some silly little cult (although much bigger than your silly little cult) succumbing to the inevitable truth and gravitus that is The Church of Rome.

We will add this small gem to our extensive and brilliant collection of Cathedrals and all for the cost of a mere 57 million... which in fact was raised by selling one of our almost countless Titians! (The one we let go has a questionable provenance but the Asian 'businessman' who bought it wouldn't know a Titian from a Rothko )

The long march to a truly Christian world is one more step forward and I look ahead to our eventually purchasing St. Paul's in London and maybe even the circus tent you Baptwits call a Church... who knows... with Jesus on our side the sky is the limit.

The Crystal Cathedral folks continue to make a spectacle of themselves:

Crystal Cathedral's Rev. Robert Schuller Requests Meals for Wife, Congregation Outraged

An email sent out to the Crystal Cathedral's congregation requested meals for founder Robert Schuller's wife, Arvella, who is sick with pneumonia. Crystal Cathderal Ministries, a glass-walled Orange County church known for its "Hour of Power" broadcasts, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Oct. 18. The Schullers, church administrators, have come under fire after court documents revealed they may have taken nearly $10 million from the church's endowment funds.

The email sent by Pastor Jim Kok asked parishioners not to send cards, because church staff and the Schullers want to keep her illness "under the radar."

"However, they would appreciate meals over the next three to four weeks," the email states, reported The Orange County Register. "They are to be sent to the church in order to be transported to Arvella. The limo drivers could pick up the dinners or meet in the Tower Lobby around 4:30 p.m."

Many parishioners are outraged over the email considering the cathedral's bankruptcy and the Schuller's involvement.

"These are millionaires who have limos and chauffeurs," an outraged member, Bob Canfied, 73, told The Orange County Register. "Why in God's name would they want the congregants to deliver meals? It's ludicrous."

It seems to me that if the Schullers have limo drivers loafing around with extra time on their hands, they ought to volunteer their limos and drivers to help out with James Hutchins's efforts to deliver bulk shipments of Bibles to places where they're most needed.

Will wonders and amusement never cease from the cathylicks. At a time when four cathylicks leave the church for each new convert, the cathylicks are now investing in modernist architecture (and one of the first American mega-churches) designed by the famous gay atheist architect Philip Johnson. We're all wondering what's next for the cathylicks as those beads, indulgences, and magic wafers went out of style ages ago.
