    let's go rhino hunting!

Who's with me? I was preparing to hunt spirit bears with John Creeser in British Columbia, but now I found something even better:

The Dallas Safari Club of Godly Texas is auctioning off a permit to hunt the incredibly rare and endangered black rhino in Namibia, but there is only 4,800 left so we better hurry up, this is a once in a lifetime experience. The thing is that the Dallas Safari Club is actually going to kill black rhinos in order to SAVE THEM from extinction, and all the money will go to the passionate Conservation Trust Fund for Namibia's Black Rhino. This great combined hunting/conservation corporation sells black rhino tags, and trust me, the money will be used to save the black rhino from extinction, take that you liberals! Let's bag some rhinos

God approves of black rhino hunting

    Genesis 1:28
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

Texas hunters pledge to save endangered black rhinos by killing one

Dallas Safari Club plans to raise $1 million for hunting permit in Namibia, wildlife activists denounce action

The Dallas Safari Club said Friday it aims to raise up to a million dollars for endangered black rhinoceroses by auctioning off a permit to kill one in Namibia. The move has raised the ire of wildlife preservation organizations, who question the move's ethics.

Ben Carter, executive director of the Dallas Safari Club, told Agence France Presse the Namibian government "selected" his hunting club to auction a black rhino hunting permit for use in one of its national parks. Namibia has an annual quota to kill up to five black rhinos out of the southern African nation's herd population of 1,795 animals.

"First and foremost, this is about saving the black rhino," Carter said.

The permit is expected "to sell for at least $250,000, possibly up to $1 million," and will be auctioned off at the Club’s annual convention from Jan. 9-12 next year. The Conservation Trust Fund for Namibia's Black Rhino will receive 100 percent of the sale price, the Club said.

In 2009, a similar permit fetched $175,000 for the Namibian Game Products Trust Fund, which pays for the species' conservation efforts, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS).

Black rhinos are internationally considered an endangered species. The World Wildlife Fund estimates only about 4,800 remain in Africa, where rhino horns are a coveted asset. Their value has spurred a lucrative black market in Asia, where some people believe they have special healing powers and the ability to cure cancer.

Al Jazeera’s Jonah Hull reported daily attacks from poachers in South Africa kill a rhino almost every day.

"Poachers come by helicopter and dart a rhino from the air with a powerful tranquilizer, a drug three thousand times more powerful than morphine,” he reported.

"As (a rhino) succumbs to deep sedation, they take a chainsaw to her face. The machine's sharp teeth tear into her skull, removing her nasal cavities, exposing parts of her brain," he said. "(The horn) will be sold to a middle man for a small fortune."

    Bringing back the carcass

Tim Van Norman, chief of the branch of permits at the FWS, said the U.S. government has not yet issued any permit to the Dallas Safari Club to return a rhino's carcass to the United States, the possibility of which would be subject to a number of conditions.

The auction's winner would have to pass background checks, he said, and hire a guide to lead a hunt accompanied by Namibian wildlife officials. The animal chosen for the hunt would also have to be approved as beneficial to the species' conservation for the government to allow the trophy inside U.S. borders.

Van Norman added that Namibia has determined certain black rhino males, older ones that have already produced offspring and are in reproductive decline, are the best targets for hunting.

"Black rhinos are very territorial so you will have an older male that is keeping younger males from reproducing," he said. "By removing these older males from the population, you get an increase in the production of calves. Younger males are able to impregnate the females that are in that area so you get more offspring than from some of these older males."

    Carter offered a different explanation.

"Black rhinos tend to have a fairly high mortality rate," Carter told the Dallas Observer. "Generally speaking, out of a population of 2,000, harvesting three rhinos over a couple or three years has no impact on the health of the rhino herd at all."

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) described the news of the auction as "disturbing" and vowed to campaign against the issuance of a U.S. permit to return the trophy.

"The world is seeing a concerted effort to preserve the very few black rhinos and other rhinos who are dodging poachers' bullets and habitat destruction," said Wayne Pacelle, president of the HSUS.

"The last thing they need are wealthy elites from foreign lands coming in to kill them for their heads."

He also questioned the ethics of wealthy, competitive trophy hunters who say they want to kill an animal in the name of conservation.

"Shooting a black rhino in the wild is about as difficult as shooting a parked car," he said. "If these are multimillionaires and they want to help rhinos, they can give their money to help rhinos. They don't need to accompany their cash transfer with a high caliber bullet," he said.

Killing animals just for the fun of it is utterly vile.

You won't eat it thereafter, so what's the point anyway? Do you regularly enjoy killing other lifeforms? What about the ten commandments? "Thou shalt not kill". Ever heard about it?

Foolish woman, the Lord was referring to people. You can't just go about killing people; unless they are the enemy. You see, the Lord here refers to murder. If the killing is sanctioned by the Lord and at His wish, killing is just fine and sometimes jolly good fun too, if I may say.

You seem to have a bad attitude. I doubt you will do well here, but worse is yet to come. There's always room for smart atheists in Hell.

So sure about that? I have actually planned to include a couple of black rhino fillets in Landover's Annual Endangered Species Dinner this year, along with the main course: the extremely rare Vaquita porpoise, a fish that comes directly from the gill nets of California

                  Yes!

What about the ten commandments? "Thou shalt not kill". Ever heard about it?
That obviously refers to humans only, not animals. Do you for example think that Jesus would help people fishing if it was a sin? Did you just call Jesus a sinner?

Notice that it does not say "except the black rhino" or "except endangered species". It literally means every moving thing that liveth.

                        Re: let's go rhino hunting!

The thing with hunting endangered animals is that you have to be really quick to buy the tags before someone else does, I was going to shoot the last western black rhino one time, but look what happened just one week before the flight

                        http://edition.cnn.com/2011/11/10/wo...pecies-report/

London (CNN) -- Africa's western black rhino is now officially extinct according the latest review of animals and plants by the world's largest conservation network.

The subspecies of the black rhino -- which is classified as "critically endangered" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature's (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species -- was last seen in western Africa in 2006.
The IUCN warns that other rhinos could follow saying Africa's northern white rhino is "teetering on the brink of extinction" while Asia's Javan rhino is "making its last stand" due to continued poaching and lack of conservation.

"In the case of the western black rhino and the northern white rhino the situation could have had very different results if the suggested conservation measures had been implemented," Simon Stuart, chair of the IUCN species survival commission said in a statement.

"These measures must be strengthened now, specifically managing habitats in order to improve performance, preventing other rhinos from fading into extinction," Stuart added.

The IUCN points to conservation efforts which have paid off for the southern white rhino subspecies which have seen populations rise from less than 100 at the end of the 19th century to an estimated wild population of 20,000 today.
Instead when I arrived I went seal hunting with the locals as compensation, that was fun but nothing compares to shooting the last one of a species, it's like having the trophy of trophies

I first read rino hunting as well and got all exited, but I think rhino can be equally fun!

I think we should make a list in next GOD, Guns 'n Guts Hunting Club meeting about endangered species and start making plans for trips to go hunt them, before it's too late. I think rhinos and tigers are great sport, but in my humble opinion we should place species found in Godly USA as a priority, thus making them favorite animals for God to kill. Like manatees and such.

That does raise a question of ethics. Is going after an endangered manatee fishing or hunting?
