I was an interloper in their neighborhood, and I don't know the rules there. It is very possible that I violated their cultural boundaries in some way and thus triggered the mugging.

Yes, they had physical power over me, at the same time as I had socioeconomic power over them. By stumbling drunkenly through their neighborhood, I was contributing to its gentrification -- my white body was not just a passive reminder of the ways in which whiteness brutalizes and oppresses POC, but an active agent of white supremacy. If they are arrested (I did not report the "assault"/forcible privilege-checking, but a witness could have) they will face harsher sentences than if they had mugged a fellow POC.

In other words, let's say the youths were so economically ravaged by the power systems I benefit from that they needed to mug someone as a matter of survival. Had I not been there, they might have mugged a Black or brown person, gotten probation, and eventually been able to move on with their lives. But because they attacked someone who our racist "justice" system perceives as white, they may end up in prison. (Again, I will not press charges. Other white kids would, and have, in my situation.) The neighborhood that they live in is still part of a racist city, which is part of a racist state, which is part of a racist country. By stepping into that neighborhood, I was bringing white supremacy to their doorstep, which makes the attack I suffered really more of an act of self defense.

Did I personally deserve it? Maybe, maybe not. But when a hunter goes into the forest, even if his gun is slung over his back, who's going to blame the animals for reacting with hostility?

I think you said it happened where you live? Have you considered moving to a nicer part of town - maybe one where drunks on the street don't constitute an improvement to the neighborhood?

Although it's somewhat painful to admit, let's be honest: America hasn't always treated Negroes fairly. Take, for example, one of the greatest entertainers of all time, Al Jolson.



Would you believe that not only is Al Jolson vilified by liberals, but that there are some circulating vicious rumors that he wasn't even a Negro. How can anyone view his touching performance in "Mammy" and not agree that he was a true Negro?

One might think, given your claims about social disconnection of ethnic minorities, that where they were not minorities the criminality would reduce. But that is not the case. In Zimbabwe for example the "white patriarchy" held title to land deriving from negotiations between Cecil Rhodes and Chief Lobengula.

By the mid-1880s, Rhodes's commercial ambitions lay in gaining control of the entire diamond mining operations at Kimberley. Utilising the advice of the German-born financier Alfred Beit, he continued to amalgamate smaller companies. Meanwhile, after acquiring the patronage of the Rothschild family and, through them, the support of Joseph Chamberlain, Colonial Secretary in Lord Salisbury's government, he embarked on a lengthy but successful legal struggle against the Barnato Mining Company. By 1889 Rhodes controlled the South African diamond mining industry, and 90% of world production. In 1886 gold was discovered at Witwatersrand near Johannesburg, Transvaal. Rhodes and Rudd eventually bought deeds to eight or nine good claims and in 1887 set up another company, Consolidated Gold Fields of South Africa.

At the same time, there were rumours of gold north of the Transvaal, in the territories of the Ndebele and Shona peoples. The king of the Ndebele, Lobengula was ambivalent towards Europeans. Nevertheless, German emissaries were soon reported in Bulawayo, Lobengula's kraal and, in 1887, Kruger sought his own agreement with the Ndebele ruler. Rhodes was apprised of the developments and persuaded the High Commissioner to take action. John Moffat was sent as an emissary to Bulawayo, and on 11th February 1888 Lobengula entered into a treaty which bound him to alienate no part of his territory without the High Commissioner's prior sanction. After further talks, Lobengula granted Rhodes mining rights. Rhodes used this latter agreement as the legal basis to found a chartered company, the British South Africa Company, on 29th October 1889. The company was roughly modelled on the old East India Company and its powers included the rights to annexe and administer land, raise its own police force and to establish settlements within its own boundaries. The territory immediately under its control was named Rhodesia.

Territorial aspirations by Dutch and German interests, anathema to the natives, were thereby thwarted and an era of political and social stability ensued. Rhodesia prospered. It's a very fertile region, not susceptible to drought or climatic extremes and enjoys considerable mineral wealth.


After a century or so leftist lobbying achieved
