What is this 420 thing?

I was running errands all over town today, and I've been hearing all these young people say "happy 420" to each other, and even to me!

What is on the 20th of April that's so special? Is it a birthday? A holiday? A celebration of independence from something?

I don't know what to think.

It's some celebration of smoking marajuana. I don't really understand it, or where the name comes from or why they picked this date.

Living in BC though (marajuana is now our #1 export) you learn about this kind of thing. They even have a big party on the steps of city hall, and the police don't arrest anyone.

Beats my Brother, but we caught two kids being truant at George McCready Price Christian High School. They kept on giggling, muttering "420" over and over again and kept on asking me for my donute.
Must be some kind of MTV thing.

It's many things actually: Hitler's birthday, Columbine anniversery, I think it was Bob Marley's birthday too, and I think that's why it's the duggie's favorite day.

I have been told it's simply atheists worshipping the birth day of their saviour (Adolf Hitler). Is this the truth or close to it?
While Hitler did kill jews (bet they wish they left Jesus alone!) he also threatened North America, witch is in it's self a major sin.
