2nd Corinthians 6:15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
2nd Corinthians 6:16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
2nd Corinthians 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate , saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
Tonight you say to her that she abandons Rome and its idolatry and false gods. If she shows the slightest hesitation, abandon her forthwith - no potentially suitable wife would even think of disobedience on such a monumental scale and in the face of such peril to her mortal soul.
Rest assured that you will have done all in your power to save her and point her to the narrow path.

Consider the secular authorities have unfairly tied your hands on this what else can you do besides toss the harlot out of your home? There was a time when Christian husbands could take the necessary steps to save their wives from foolishness but governments have chosen to listen to Satan on this.Originally posted by Once was lost View PostRecently i was lost but became a Christian. Mark 10 (AV1611 King James Bible)
2And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him.
3And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you?
4And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away.
5And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept.
6But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.
7For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;
8And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.
9What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
10And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter.
11And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her. 12And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.
I should think adultery would be an excellent reason to lose standing at Landover Baptist Church.
Just remember, if you divorce and remarry, you are committing adultery. Jesus is a bit more forgiving if you are not married.

She would need to convert first, as Dr. Bathfire pointed out.Originally posted by Once was lost View Post(we have not had sexual relations as of yet)
If she does, there's nothing wrong with a quickie marriage.
1 Corinthians 7:9
But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.Christians are superior because we possess an understanding that unbelievers lack. It is through the Power of Jesus only the converted mind is able to understand what is going on in the world; what the Communists are really up to; what Satan's intentions are. Most unbelievers do not even believe in Satan and cannot understand his tactics.

Not in my view, Levi. Remember he was speaking to unregenerate Joos here, trying to justify themselves and catch him in the finer points of the law. 15But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.
That you are ok with your first wife leaving, since she was Godless, unbelieving filth. I would say that if this papist Jezebel submits to you like she is supposed to, then you can make her become a good Christian woman. But I could be wrong and I would consider the enlightened advice of some of the other, more well-versed Pastors and Brothers here.Jesus will return the favor with nails of truth and the hammer of righteousness.

The passage you quote is, of course, inerrant in every detail. But please don't put words in Paul's mouth. That's God's job. A brother or sister is not under bondage to remain married in such a case. Jesus' strict tether still holds. He is not to remarry or he commits adultery. Again, remember that Jesus was enunciating an eternal marriage principle to unregenerate Joos, not True Christians(TM).

Excellent point, Dr. Wierdsbe, but we should pause to admit that there is one permissible reason for divorcing a wife, fornication:Originally posted by Dr. Warren Wierdsbe View Post11And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her. 12And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.

Worshipping another God, which this woman clearly does, is whoring, and therefore adultery of the first order:
Lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they go a whoring after their gods, and do sacrifice unto their gods, and one call thee, and thou eat of his sacrifice.... Exodus 34:15

Re: Today i am troubled
I must admit that earlier, I did not comment upon the timely departure of the OP's wife; I assumed that this was understood to be covered by God's Word: "If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;" (Deuteronomy 13: 6)
"Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him: But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people." (Deuteronomy 13:8-9)
We obviously cannot condone killing a wife (secular law applies) but divorce is a good alternative as it separates the ex-wife from her husband, which, as we know is equivalent to separating her from God - which is death to the soul.
I'm sure Jesus would approvesigpic

Re: Today i am troubled
Please forgive me if there is some misapprehension as to my true meaning on this issue. Fornication is, of course proper grounds for divorce. Domestic violence, mental anguish and the like are just whiners' excuses. However, my objection is not to the divorce per se. My objection (and Jesus') is to the remarrying. That second marriage is adultery.Originally posted by WWJDnow View PostExcellent point, Dr. Wierdsbe, but we should pause to admit that there is one permissible reason for divorcing a wife, fornication:

Make no mistake, where Jesus mentions in Matthew "except it be for fornication," that clause is dependent on the first, not the following. The only acceptable reason for divorce is fornication. There is no acceptable excuse for remarrying unless your first spouse has died.
You know, I've been in Baptist Churches that love God and serve Him with a fervor I have rarely seen, believing the King James Bible and preaching it as True Christians(TM), where the preacher or some members are ex-convicts, or murderers, or reformed drunkards, fornicators, back-biters and backsliders. The Spirit is there in all truth when these folks have gotten right with God. But I have never been in a Church where I knew God was working that allowed remarriage of either the preacher or any other member in good standing. God will NOT honor that church!

Re: Today i am troubled
Dr. Warren:
I'm really confused. I believe that, in this world of rampant, shameless sin, someone must hear the Call from olden times. I believe that I hear it, but I can't possibly be the only one. I came to this website because I heard that here was where True Christians listened to the Word. I don't understand how the same words mean so many different things to people!
"Secular law applies." I don't see why we keep getting reminded of this, especially in light of this discussion!
Marriage is a Holy rite, not a secular one. I have been to many weddings, and they are always presided over by a man of the cloth, even if held outside a church. In the distinction made by Jesus in Luke 20:25, how does secular law take precedence in matters of marital relations? Marriage is God's, not Caesar's or Obamin Laden's or anyone else's, so Leviticus 20:10 applies, or at least it should.
I am at a major point of frustration here. God is eternal, as is His Word. What authority does any government have to come between God and His servants? When we read our Love Letters, there are not less than 36 different offenses that get you put to death, and I haven't heard of a church mobilizing to put down God's wrath in the appointed way in... well, maybe never. How are we to say that we are True Christians when we just plain old don't follow the Law?This is how hard this is.
We are right. They are wrong.
If
wasn't enough to teach them, and
ain't managed to get it through their heads yet, then I can't see that they have no other choices but
...
AND THAT'S MORE THAN THEY DESERVE!!!
