So here's the thing, guys. What you've seen throughout this thread is that there are people in the world who do not agree with and adhere to all the morals and scripture that you do. It stands to reason, then, that there are people outside of this forum that behave in the same way, right?

These people who do not follow every rule in the Bible are likely the same people that the original poster found on another message board, saying that Sarah Palin is "fappable". Cranky Old Man, you've found a list of acronyms for F.A.P., but none of those can really be adjectives, can they? They're all nouns, and I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that I really don't know what any of them mean. Is it likely that a bunch of users on another forum know exactly what Familial amyloid polyneuropathy is, and that they all agree that that term applies to Sarah Palin?

I can only hope that you can objectively conclude that if there are people who do not agree with your values here, then there are people who do not agree with your values elsewhere, and that these people quite possibly could be saying that Sarah Palin is attractive enough to "fap" to, meaning to masturbate to.

You don't have to agree with how people of other belief and value systems act, but you must accept that they exist and will have thought processes different to your own.

That goes back to what was posted a few pages back. Someone mistakenly read a link saying that "fap" meant "onomatopoeia", but the article meant that "fap" is an onomatopoeia, meaning a word that sounds the same as the thing it is describing. Other examples are "sizzle", "buzz", or maybe even "quack".

This is a little coarse, so forgive me, but the origins of the word "fap" with regards to masturbation come from Japanese erotic comic books, where "fap" is used to illustrate the sounds of the act. It's a little like the old Adam West Batman television series, where sound effect words would pop up on screen whenever Batman "ka-pow!"ed a bad guy.

The word "fap" isn't a shortened version of masturbation, it is the product of a slightly obscene internet sub-culture that has appropriated it to mean something very attractive or sexual.

Again, you don't have to agree with or condone any of the implications behind the word or its use in conjunction with Sarah Palin, but to get so angry and "kill the messenger" as you all did on Page 2 of this thread is a little silly, since you were all quite curious (and oblivious) as to what it meant on Page 1.

I don't think I have done anything to incite argument - I have tried to provide an alternative and objective viewpoint, without insulting anyone's values or beliefs. I have not insulted Sarah Palin, but merely posited that there are those who find her attractive, and that some of those people share different beliefs and values than those here.

I'm not certain I understand the merit of the scripture you referenced, as nothing I have spoken about has referenced adultery, nor have I ever committed adultery.

I see that many of you have attended theological school. While there, did you simply read and re-read your Bible, or were you encouraged to discuss and debate the True Meaning of the Word so that your understanding would grow?

Firstly, Wide-Open: Excuse my poorly worded explanation. I did not mean that sizzle, buzz, and quack meant the same thing as fap. I meant that, similar to fap, those words were examples of onomatopoeias. I'm sure that a dictionary could define that word better than I could, so if you are still confused as to what I meant, you can use Merriam Webster's website to clarify. Also, calling people of Japanese descent "nips" is more than a little racist.

And yes, to the rest of you, I realize that you believe that the Bible is a literal translation of the will of God. I respect your beliefs full-heartedly. To live with truly Christian values is a difficult thing to do in the world we live in today, and is most certainly laudable. I choose to live by the spirit and not the letter of the Bible - for example, I believe that one should not cheat on their wives, but I do not believe that man has the authority to judge adulterers by stoning them to death.

Is it not a Christian value to accept others for all their faults?

It's not "the" definition it is "a" definition. And yes we are offended when people choose a sexual interpretation, especially in relation to Sarah Palin. As I mentioned before you are responsible for your interpretation. You can not blame others for it.
