That's exactly why philosophy and science are needed in this world : philosophy allows us to discern what is true from what is not ( "true" being " conform to our understanding of the world"), and science allows to act on the behalf of what we have already determined to be right. What I meant is that you can NOT change anyone by insulting his beliefs or identity : it is not enough to yell "pagan" to a pagan to make him change his ways ... You need to adopt his own point of view to know what kind of arguments can touch him. And Jesus was harsh on religious people ( the pharisians), not those who were considered "sinners" at this point. The only thing you can achieve to do by insulting people is hurt them, which should not be the point.

You are contrasting pharisees and sinners as if they were not all sinners! Yes, the pharisees were filled with false self-righteousness. That made them sinners, nonrepenting sinners, sinners of the saddest kind and the hardest to win over to Jesus. We must ask, who are these saddest sinners now? The answer is obvious: those with false self-righteousness, assertions of redemption without following the orders of Jesus. I'm warning you. This is not a short list:

Sexual deviants who discard the Bible and claim that their acts are not sinful.
False Christians leaders who dismiss Genesis and endorse 'theistic evolution' to gain prestige and popularity in the eyes of scientists and the general public with the three most recent papist leaders as the worst examples.
The cotton candy Christians who disregard the Bible and patronize God as if He should not be feared.
The academic theologists who feel superior in front of fundamentalists as they explain the Bible away with textual criticism.
The preachers of false tolerance and equality who deviate from the commandments by trying to make the distinctions between sexes and nations obscure.

They are the pharisees with false superiority. They are claiming that the sins listed in the Bible were no sins to begin with and that the acts considered unspeakable are normal. They are claiming themselves free from these ancient sins. Exactly as you depicted while failing to see the connections. Yes, it is sad.

Whereas True Redemption™ comes through fear, acceptance, obedience, personal choice to follow Jesus and His commandments. Through this realization of sin you can be Truly™ Saved and really superior to the state of sin that overwhelmed you before your spiritual rebirth in the bosom of sweet Jesus. That option is available here and we are the living examples of it.
