Then why do you think certain bits are lies? I guess you think that Jesus had better things to do than to challenge slavery rather than actually condoning it. What other things that Jesus said did He not really mean because they were just attitudes of the time? Did He lie when He promised He would come again to judge both the quick and the dead? Did Paul not really see Jesus when he was struck down on the road to Damascus? Is everything Paul then wrote (most of the New Testament) unreliable and based on a fraudulent story?

I'm appalled at where your reasoning takes us. You might as well throw the Bible out and make stuff up from scratch. At least have the honesty to admit that that is what you are doing.

I guess it was metaphorical and God really doesn't mean we should kill queers or have slaves as our property. God gives more directions about how to treat livestock and slaves than He tells us how to care for our children (who should be beaten or killed if they don't heed the beatings, by the way).

I'll grant you that a lot of American laws are entirely secular in origin and totally out of step with the Bible. Once there are politicians in place who are committed to running the country on biblical principles based on God's morality those laws can be rightly superseded. The ones that are God-inspired like those allowing teaching of creationism as science can stay.
