I am Vasilis, living in Athens, Greece (yes far away).
The forum just came up in a result search.
I am very interested in discussing religious issues.


I am a scientist (chemical engineer doing my PhD) AND I believe in God.


If I had to pick up a quotation from the Bible (I don't read/believe the Old Testament) it would be the Easter Sermon of St John Chrysostom.

Hello and to our Godly forum! Nice to meet you! I always thought that the male version of my name was "Vasiliy," not "Vasilis." I was named after St. Basilissa of Nicomedia. She was a sore loser if you care to read her story, but there's not much I can do about this at this point.

Which part of the Bible do you believe, then, dear?

Because if you believed the New Testament, you'd know and follow this:

Matthew 5:17-19
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

And this:
James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

Well, I guess God has to fill Hell with somebody, and that's why He created people like you who don't want to follow His commandments. Happy roasting!

AFAIK Mosaic Law is part of the Old Testament, if not mistaken.And I don't like the part (free translation from Greek) "eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth". The reason is that the Christ teaches LOVE and not hate!

Welcome, Vasilis. God's law comes in two parts. The first part is the Old Testament and the second is the New Testament. As Sister Basilissa has pointed out, it was no other than Jesus Himself who said that the good news He was bringing did not overturn the existing law, but added to it. If you are Christian, you believe and follow the law laid out in both testaments. If you do not believe in both testaments, then you are not Christian. I believe that in your case, the confusion comes from exposure to the Greek religion. The best news is that the Lord has guided you here and you may yet be saved.

Why not tell us a little of your life in Grease. In our country, only the Negroes riot and try to burn down the cities. I have noticed that White people in your country act like Negroes and try to burn down your cities. Do you think it's the rap music?

So you disregard what Jesus said (see my post above) because you don't like it?...

Why would you think that Jesus would still like you if you don't obey what He said?...

Hello, Mr. Vasilis. I must say that for a while I was like you, thinking that with Jesus God somehow changed His character, and transformed from a hateful, vengeful being into a loving one.

Then I've read the New Testament, and quite frankly, Jesus is as hateful, vengeful, and quite frankly xenophobic just as the God of the Old Testament.

Now, when you look outside of the Holy Bible and at the history of Christianity, pretty much since year 313 A.D., it's a history of hateful, vengeful, and xenophobic behavior towards everyone who is defined as "not us" - be it people of other religion, other skin color, or simply those who follow a different interpretation of Christianity.

Which makes me think, does God enjoy all of the genocide, slavery and other ways of oppressing people, which has been done in His name for the past 1700 years?

If He does, then He is cruel and not worthy of our worship. If He doesn't, then why would he allow it? Maybe he's not omnipotent? Or maybe there is no God to begin with?...

I have these thoughts and then I'm scared that I'll go to Hell, but these are legitimate questions, right?...

But it might be the rap music, don't you think? We have a few anarchists here, too. They enjoy joining with unsaved Negroes to cause mayhem, but we keep them thinned out. We are Americans as well as Christians, so we are well armed. When anarchists show themselves, we shoot them. That is why you see them wearing masks- they don't want us to recognize them later.

Greetings Vasislis. I am also a foreigner and not a Baptist. You do not have to be a Baptist to enjoy fellowship with these white people but I would advise you to avoid talking about your own beliefs. I have found these people to be among the kindest in Babylon but they are easily angered and being white people they can be dangerous. Luckily you are far away in Greece and they probably can not find you if they become irate.

I am Trevor McGregor from Tivoli Gardens in the city of Kingston which is in Jamaica which is my home. I have come here to Babylon to be educated but I am on sabbatical from my studies to work in the campaign of Hillary Clinton who will soon be the President of America. I myself will be an important dignitary and work in the State Department while attending Georgetown University. Can you tell us more about the country of Greece? Are there Black men there?

My answer is: God made us like him: free. If He affects our lives continuously then we are not free anymore - we do an action and we have to deal with the reaction! - so in my eyes it is like He cancels himself by canceling our freedom.

My answer is: God made us like him: free. If He affects our lives continuously then we are not free anymore - we do an action and we have to deal with the reaction! - so in my eyes it is like He cancels himself by canceling our freedom.

Following your logic, it's pointless to pray to God during events such as wars and genocides because if He intervened to help those who pray to Him, He would have to encroach on the liberty of the evildoers. Also, He cannot intervene to help people who pray to Him during natural events such like earthquakes or famines or even terminal illnesses because if He did then the victims of these events wouldn't be free anymore.

Congratulations - you just were able to cancel the necessity of existence of religions in the first place, because with one simple sentence you've stated that God is useless.



I'm pretty sure that's a blasphemy.
