What do you mean, "With a name like Jezebel . . ."? Where do you suppose the unflattering associations to the name "Jezebel" came from?!


The woman referred to in 2 Kings IS Jezebel! The fact that her name has become a commonly used shorthand to describe a woman of low virtue and rebellious nature is because of this book of the Bible.


This is example is only one of many showing the pervasive influence of the Bible on history and modern culture. Which is all the more reason for you to . . .


Seriously, if you want to dispute any of the positions that we present, you need to study the source material. Trying to make a "clever" comment supposedly to disparage a person mentioned in the Bible without understanding that the person you are trying to disparage is the reason for the dispargaging connotation of the name you are using to disparage that person does not make you look terribly bright.


(It also makes for a painfully unwieldy sentence required to correct your lack of knowledge in this subject area.)

Oh I was aware long before of Jeezie's trampish reputation, in fact, so often I say aloud, "Sweet Jezabel, that's a large wart!"


And I may be a proud Catholic, but I believe you don't need to read the whole Bible to get the gist of the stories in it.

Hello Gale. By "the gist", do you mean God-approved genocides and oppression of some groups of people, such women and minorities, by other groups of people?


Because that certainly is pretty much the gist of it - but actually you do have to read the whole thing to know that. Because these parts of the Bible rarely are advertised, even though it's like 95% of it.

You only "accept" a very small portion of what the Bible says (the stuff you agree with already, howzboutdat), and the rest of it that says you have to kill witches, disobedient children, non-virgin brides that have been properly paid for, etc., it's on to "oh, that's old stuff and doesn't apply to special little me ."

Either you accept Jesus for everything He says He is and obey every word in the Bible, also known as the Word of God and trust in a heavenly reward, or you go to hell.


There are no half-way measures offered in the Bible. God kept Moses from entering the Promised Land because he deviated in one minor action while following through on God's instructions.


Do you think that a God who would create a place like hell would have a lax attitude towards sending people there? It's designed to horribly torture people for all eternity. Its very existance suggests a less than easy going attitude on the general subjects of obediance and judgment.

But it is better to refer to them as Mexican and American. You know, both are pretty different from the originals. You may know that a Spain Spanish will have a hard time catching up a Lunfardo Oriented Argentinian, and even a Lunfardo Oriented Argentinian will have much trouble trying to understand a Cordobes. And all of them will not understand two Mexicans talking to each other. Or what is "Pinche cabrón, no mames wey"? I don't know, that is gibberish for me.


In the same manner, when a British says "football" is refering to a sport other than the real "football" you will encounter in America. So they ARE in fact different languages, even if they share a common ancestor (the OLD English, the ANTIGUO ESPAÑOL)

So in some Latin American countries people refer to the last language as castellano, since it originates in Castile-la Mancha.

Second, as Brother Gonzalez has mentioned, there are plenty of varieties of castellano. I've not heard a person not living in Spain using vosotros; people in each region have a different way to pronounce "ll;" there are words which mean different things in different areas (such as wawa/guagua*, which depending on the area means a baby or a bus); and also there are words which are unique to a specific area (for example llajua/llajwa**, which is the best human invention since agriculture).

This was extremely informative! From what I remember, Catalan is a mixture of two languages, but I am unsure of the second. And I learned Spanish in an American school, so it's most likely not going to be 100% one country, but our teacher taught us mostly how they speak Spanish in Latin-America, Mexico, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean. And I am well aware of Oral Tradition, so obviously an entire ocean in between 2 groups of people will change certain ways of saying things. Thank you for this information, and have a nice evening!
