Sweetie, when I said "that explains a lot" I wasn't thinking about the probabilities of you getting into Heaven. I was thinking solely about your intellectual challenges.

Have you tried prayer? It could help with both issues.

I know - Sweden is truly scandalous. This just in:

Swiss voters have backed same-sex marriage in a referendum, according to projections.

More than 60% supported the measure, which would bring the country into line with most of western Europe.

Thank you for your kind welcome Isabella White! I wanted to respond to you in particular before leaving this forum. I understand you also come from a Pentecostal background, as you mentioned your father being a Pentecostal preacher. I found some writing here disturbing, about The Holy Spirit, that felt a bit like mockery. I can't be part of that. However I greet you with love dear sister i Christ. May the Lord bless you so much, and fill you with abundance of His love and grace. Elle

Thank you for contributing to the forum. As you know, God is always consistent. Sometimes it's difficult for humans to appreciate what that means – after all, the standards that have been dreamed up across centuries are not very enduring. Some have lasted a little longer than others, when enforced by laws or by the threat of ostracism for instance, in the latter case that could be tantamount to starving or freezing to death. Some human societies have even chopped people up for holding a different opinion: no option there to simply move away!
Malachi 3:6a For I am the LORD, I change not

The Bible explains about the standard God has enabled us to live by. Alone, without His spirit to guide us, we might dream up anything. Values we cherish are fleeting by nature, a few generations perhaps. Look at the 20th century, three or four generations and clearly someone born in the 1890's who lived to see the 3rd millennium (they'd be over 100 then but plenty of folk live to a hundred) so yes, they'd be a single generation but what immense development of ideas they saw! There were plenty of "bohemian" types around in the 1800's as we know from literature. It wasn't the norm and often those alternative values (such as concerned property ownership or plural marriage) sprang from disagreements whereby one could simply go and live in "the bohemian quarter" of a city—London, Paris, maybe Oslo—and not experience social opprobrium. Five floozies on his arm? Sure, as long as they didn't marry each other all at the same time. Shack up with the boyfriend so as to retain property rights? Definitely, for those so inclined. Polite society wouldn't approve though. Neither would God.
Malachi 3:6b ..therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

God's value system, just as much as His Perfect Love, does not change. The Bible tells us all about it, particularly concerning Love. The Israelites continually revised their code of ethics but God's undertaking ran true. Bohemian trollops like George Sand rejected the standard set out by God in The Bible. She could probably include the word "love" in a sentence but what she intended the sentence to convey would be quite different from Christians' understanding of love. Feeble appetite-driven human love is one of those things that changes all the time. Its values change even over a couple of generations.

"I cannot say that is to my taste, for I have no idea. I have passed so entirely beside everything that goes to make up the life of young women--marriage, wealth and liberty--that I am hardly acquainted with myself. I know that I have consumed two years in ennui and melancholy, and thus far in my solitude, except for these money troubles, which are exceedingly distasteful to me, but which I do my best to endure without bitterness, I find myself in a more tolerable condition than in those through which I have previously passed. It may be that my character lacks energy just as my mind lacks variety. Being driven to some occupation to kill time, I have taken a liking to quiet amusements. I read a great deal, I draw a little, I play on the piano, I embroider, I write occasional letters to my old friends at the convent. I receive four or five people of a serious turn of mind, but good-tempered, and always the same, so that I am habitually placid and free from excitement. In a word, I do not suffer, and I am not bored; and that is a good deal to one who has always suffered or yawned with ennui hitherto. So leave me as I am, my friend. Come to see me as often as you can without interfering with your pleasures, and do not worry about my lot, which is not so bad as it might be."

"All this will do very well for a while, my dear, and you act like a woman of spirit by meeting misfortune with a stout heart; but all things have their day, and you must not sacrifice too much of the age of beauty and the advantages which it procures. You are not, be it said without offence, of very exalted birth, but your unfortunate marriage gave you a fine name and a title which placed you on a higher social level. You are a widow, which enables you to go about and be seen and known, and you have no children; so that you are still in all the bloom of your youth. You have no fortune; but, as your dower, overladen with debts as it is, will be no great loss, you can very well hold it cheap, and renounce it for a more eligible suitor than the first. If you choose to put yourself in my hands, I will undertake to arrange the sort of marriage for you to which you have a perfect right to aspire."

"The sort of marriage? You surprise me; explain yourself!"

"I mean to say that you are too fascinating not to be married for love."

"Very good; but will it be someone whom I shall be able to love?"

So much for George Sand whose values differ greatly from what God ordains and enables with The Holy Spirit. The so-called modern era has overturned as much as possible anything helping us to appreciate God and the unchanging standard He explains in The Bible. There are even congregations substituting their own philosophy, claiming that ideas attributed to God are actually of human origin.

Trusting you manage to read and understand what God explains about love and the need for humans to be rescued, no matter what the cost. He had Himself murdered for exactly that reason and one day soon everyone rejecting Him will get exactly what they deserve. It's right there in The Bible.

Oh, no! I am so sorry to read of this, dear Miss Elle. And, please do forgive me for the delay in responding to your post. I've been away at the cottage (with my sister, Agatha) in the Finger Lakes district, and I have no interwebs connection there.

Well, what can I say, except to assure you that you are very welcome here at , and that I hope you will reconsider. I hadn't noticed any writings that may have been offensive to you. I should mention that we base our postings on the ever-glorious ; and, it is possible that some references to that blessed Book may have been somewhat upsetting.

Certainly, a scriptural reference to Isaiah 45:7 would be one example:

"I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the do all these things."

Or, Psalm 137:9 could also be taken offensively by some:

“Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.”

Those are only two such examples, Dear. Since we follow the Word of the so closely, and since we do not use watered-down, minced-up versions, sometimes the "meaty" writings of the Book might offend. But, as I'm sure you know, all of these great verses of Holy Scripture are breathed by the Almighty — self!

II Timothy 3:16 "All scripture is given by inspiration of , and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness"

Please, do reconsider your decision, Dear, as we would love to have you with us. I was so delighted when I had read that we share a similar background, and I was looking forward to fellowship. May bless you richly, dear Miss Elle — here, at .
