    Hello there!

    Hi everybody!

I'd like to start off by saying that this website was mentioned to me, not by a member but by a good friend of mine who has grown up in the Christian church.

I personally, have grown up in a family that while I suppose they believe in god, they don't really talk about him much. As a result of this I can honestly say that aside from twice in my life, I have never stepped foot in a church. I went to a Catholic school once, but I was very young so I didn't really pay attention to what the reverend/pastor was saying - and the second time I went to my friend's church.

Which leads me to explaining what I'm doing here. I've always been very curious about the whole concept of God and Jesus Christ, I'm an extremely open minded person so I'm open to the Christian point of view and I'd like to learn more about it. I'd just like to point out that I don't intend to offend anybody or mock their beliefs in any way, shape or form. I'm simply curious and would like to learn more.

As for the bible, I've flicked through it once, so I don't claim to know anything that's in it, not to mention that I think talking to people actually involved with the religion would be a more interesting learning tool and may help me to better understand the Christian views.
Due to my lack of bible knowledge I don't have a favourite Bible verse.

And as for how I found Jesus, well, I don't really think I have yet, I've heard his story, but I don't really know much about him - which is why I've joined this site so I can better understand him.
The first and only time I went to actual church, was with my friend and her family and I found the sense of community in the atmosphere to be quite refreshing. Which inspired my idea of trying to find out more about Jesus - because he seems quite interesting.
I'd like to place more emphasis on the fact that no offense is intended and if I don't agree with something I read on this website I'm not going to insult anybody, because everybody is entitled to having their own beliefs and I respect that.

    Looking forward to hearing more,

    -Onyx

    Re: Hello there!

Well friend, nice to know a pal referred you here but why aren't they a member?
I also suggest you read your KJV Bible and see what cool stuff Jesus has been up to. Once you've done that, let's talk some more.
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?
Numbers 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Matthew 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Matthew 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

      Re: Hello there!

Mr Hutchins is quite correct. You need to start reading the Bible my friend. Don't go to Bible reading classes, they will fill your head with a lot of hippy, all peace and love nonsense. Just read it yourself and make up your own mind. God has inspired it so the message you get will be the correct one.

You can then make up your own mind about whether you want to spend eternity in a heavenly bliss or spend it being sodomised by demons in a lake of fire,

Get reading now, tomorrow may be too late,

Genesis 22:2 And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.

You need to close your mind, fast.

There is no "Christian point of view." There is God, Jesus Christ, and His Holy Word. These are realities, not concepts or points of view.

To find Jesus, simply humble yourself before The Almighty, get on your knees, confess your sins, and sincerely ask Jesus to enter you.

Please do it now. You could die in the next 10 seconds.

But you have a choice to reject God. He gave us free will to do just that. In fact, our free will is so important to God that in exchange for it during our short time on earth, He is willing to let us scream and burn in hell for all eternity. He loves us that much! Just choose wisely, or you'll pay for it, forever.

I'm afraid God doesn't agree with you. Not one bit.

Exodus 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

Exodus 34:14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:

Ezekiel 23:25 And I will set my jealousy against thee, and they shall deal furiously with thee: they shall take away thy nose and thine ears; and thy remnant shall fall by the sword: they shall take thy sons and thy daughters; and thy residue shall be devoured by the fire.

1 Corinthians 5:11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

I don't sympathise with terrorists, the killing and torturing of innocents and their families is unforgivable. I don't know why, but Muslims annoy me.

Good news, I read the bible. I found it to be quite enlightening.

You're right, the raven is a common pagan symbol - the pagans believe that it brings healing and protection, death and rebirth. Apparently in the medieval times Christians belived that it just meant death and misfortune. But I didn't choose it for either of those reasons; I chose it because it's a beautiful and somewhat mysterious bird. Dark-looking and misunderstood - which is something that I can personally relate to. My skin is ghost-white and I have jet-black hair, so naturally people misunderstand my intentions.

Well... It made me feel warmer inside, a sense of acceptance. Knowing that Jesus loved us all enough to die for us is quite moving, and truly amazing once you really think about it. And the fact that god created the whole world is well, for lack of better words, awesome.

Be careful of cherry-picking churches Miss Raven. They will try to lure you in with goodie-goodie verses from the bible taken out of context. For example:

Mathew 7: 1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.

They almost ALWAYS fail to talk about what comes after.

Mathew 7: 2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

In terms that most people can understand the above passage means that you should not judge until you have given up sin yourself. We at Landover Baptist follow ALL of the KJV 1611 buble, and not just the parts which makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside. The bible is not a "warm and fuzzy" book, but the literal word of God and must be followed. What the John 3:16'ers fail to realize is that Jesus died for the sins of those who believe in Him and ALL of His words - not to mention following ALL his commandments.
"If thou buy an Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing. . . . And if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the manservant's do."
                              (Leviticus 21:6-7)
