The source I linked to and quoted didn't even tell the half of it. From what I've read, those fellers didn't just visually check for the presence of testicles; they reached right out and touched them!

Can you imagine anything so disgusting? I had my doctor try to touch mine one time, "to check for lumps," but I give him a good, swift kick in the teeth!

They weren't altar boys. Only a high ranking cardinal got the job, and it was his for life. There was a special chair with appropriate parts on the bottom removed. The chair with its plaque is stored in the Vatican warehouse. It hasn't been used for about 100 years. Photos of it exist. But I don't want to scare anyone, so those with prurient interests will have to find it on their own.

If you're strong enough in Christ to be able to view pornographic material without losing your way, I strongly recommend Milo Manara's "Borgia" comics. They portray the rise to the Papacy of Rodrigo Borgia, and include a scene where an openly queer cardinal gets to do the honors and fondle Rodrigo's sack while it's hanging down through the hole in the special chair.
