I'm Kenny Ray. My walk with Jesus started as a very young boy. For a time, my grand-parents brought me to a church where much of the Mass was said in Latin. It didn't appeal to me, but it was better than the Sunday School class for kids. Then there was a godless period in my life - at least formally. I'm sure Jesus was still around - but we didn't visit his house. Then, in the 6th grade I was forced into Catholic CCD classes, and tutored (to bring me up to speed) by a nun. I thought I might become a priest - but then a secular liberal education™ taught me the half-truths and outright lies of Darwin's Evolution and the Big Bang Theory. At the time, it made more sense than the other lies I was being taught by the Catholics. So - I declared myself an Atheist. In the Air Force, I even had them put Atheist on my Dog Tags.
But something changed in my spirit. I had an awakening - and, ironically, it had more to due with science than any pulpit sermon.
I had atheist friends who thought that they were being "objective" about their view of reality. From their point of view - the burden of proof of God's existence rested upon the believer. They would say that they wouldn't believe anything they couldn't detect with their 5 senses. They called that an Objective Reality.
In watching a science program on butterflies, it was pointed out that the ego-laden scientists thought incorrectly that this particular type of butterfly determined male from female through their sense of smell. They appeared completely similar visually - so it must be smell the proud scientists had determined. But somewhere along the line - someone put those butterflies under ultraviolet light - and lo and behold! The males and females were actually visually marked to avoid homer™ activities.
Why was this such a life changing moment for me? Well for one - it was clear that God didn't even want butterflies to be gay; but, it was also clear that man can be vein and egotistical and prideful of his gift of sight. We use our eyes so much - and depend upon them for so much, that it is an easy trap to fall into. "If I can't see it - it doesn't exist." And so it goes.
Yet, clearly things exist all around us that we cannot see. Microwaves that cook™ our food, cell phone signals, wireless Internet connections, etc. One could argue that since we made those things, we know they exist - but my revelation was on a more fundamental level.
If I know that there can be things that exist that I cannot see or detect - and if I have the Word Of God™ in the KJV that tells me that there is a God that exists (yet I cannot see). Then - isn't the burden of proof on those who would claim that no divinity exists? Yes. This is what I concluded. It is not "objective" to deny things until you can scientifically prove them - it is "objective" to allow for all things that are possible. The proof of God exists within each of us - and it is ready to be discovered by anyone humble enough to look there. Knock and it will be answered.
We have eye-witnesses that are external to the Bible that confirm enough of the Bible to know that it isn't just a work of fiction, as some godless heathens might suggest.
So I say - Praise the Lord - and Pass the Ammunition (which was a song that was apparently popular when my Grandfather was kicking Nazi ass in WWII).
I don't attend a church at this time - but I do keep fellowship with the best Christians™ a man could have: Those who keep and bear arms, and vote Republican
As for a favorite bible quote - that is a tough one - I'll have to pull my KJV out to find one that resonates with me right now. I don't really have a 'favorite' - there are so many. But to comply with the leadership wishes... I'll say... right now... my favorite is Matthew 17:9-13 I really like those words because even though, in my humble opinion, the Catholics tried to keep the full truth out of their official cannon - they missed some very important things that I suspect they would have rather censored if they had a choice.
