The first question thing I would point out is that this is the verse that Jesus bases, "Love thy neighbor" on in the New Testament.

Secondly, you have to ask yourself, what does it actually mean by neighbor in the Old Testament?

Many times the Hebrew word amiyth is alternately used as countryman. Neighbor means those who are your own, if you know what I mean.

Lev 19:27. You are not allowed to round the edges of your beard or shave the sides of your head (mohawk). What is so difficult to understand? I do neither. I shave my beard completely and leave a little on the sides.

Look,you believe in agnostic atheism, I'm an atheist which means I don't believe in the existence of any supreme being. Which make many of my views different than yours. Hello once again all,

Unfortunately my problem with my friend Matthew has only gotten worse. When I got home today I received a phone call from him. I asked what was wrong and he said with a bitter voice that he has renounced his faith in God Almighty.

Horrified, I asked him why he had made such a drastic change. He said that the words of that man from a few days ago had "burned into him" and filled him with "shame" that he could not prove that God exists. He went on to say that he spent several hours in prayer afterwards but could not "find an answer to fill the void in me." I asked him if he would like to come over to my house and pray with my sister and I and he became filled with rage, saying "You can't fix this, Daniel. I'm broken."

Honestly, I haven't seen him this angry since I told him I would be voting for Obama in November. Is there any way I can repair my friend's good faith in Our Lord and rekindle out friendship? He is my closest friend and I want to help him through this.

Hello, ConiferousDreams. Sorry about what your friend has gone through.

Some advice I could give is to tell your friend to stay on his feet, for faith in God is much more powerful than harsh words that hippister fellow hit him with. Matthew shouldn't let one silly fool from the streets change what he believes in. The heathen decided by himself to deny God's existence, and would likely be too stubborn to believe even after being shown legit proof anyway. Such a man is a lost soul, and isn't worth the trouble.

I admire your dedication to help your friend, and hope he lets God back into his life once more. Keep your faith in God, friend.
