                It's true that I follow some practices that are from a newer religion, but I worship old Gods, ones that out date the discovery of the Christian God. An atheist doesn't worship Gods or have a religion.

                  How can they possibly out date the Bible? Even secular scientist agree that Semitic writing is at least 5000 years old (dating the Bible fairly accurately).

                  Indo European writing is only (at best 4000 years old). So there can be no records of pre Biblical European gods. You could hypothesise about em but you have actual reason to assume thier existence. The burden of proof is on you.

                      You do make a good point there, Dr. Niel. Although, even before everyone had a chance to read the bible, other Gods were being worshiped right? Humans are spiritual, and seek guidance from higher powers, so they turn to Gods. Who is to say that these Gods weren't real?

                        Like I said: you can hypothesise about all sorts of other gods that people may have believed in but without at least some form of evidence to support it all you are doing is saying "what if?".

                        People believe many things but when there is no supporting reason to do so it is most likely the result of 'feeling good' ideas. That is to say that by believing in hocus pocus people feel better: like horrorscopes, mediums or evolution.

                        Christianity is different. It is damn hard to be a True Christian™. I happen to know several gay people who are very nice human beings but my faith tells me they are going to Hell and when I witness this fact to them it is very awkward.

                        If I did what feels good I would not tell them they are going to Hell but if I love them I should give them every chance to avoid eternal torment.

                        Does that make it any clearer?

                          Yes it does, Dr. Neils. I respect your religious views, and that you are only trying to follow what is right according to your Holy Bible. I understand that you love God and His children enough to tell them when they have sinned, and you only wish for all of His good children to spend their after life in heaven.
