Hello Landover Baptists- I'm really not here to troll and force my opinions and ideals on you, because I don't believe that actually works in communicating effectively with people of other beliefs.
But I am sincerely curious about this religion.. For the majority of my life, going to Catholic elementary school, I knew there were other denominations of Christianity- but I had no idea people actually followed the Bible SO literally (as opposed to following it contextually as I was taught to do as a child)
On a side note; I believe it was the sheer fact that I attended a Catholic/Christian elementary school was what made me turn away from the religion in my teen years. As you obviously know and clearly do not approve of, Catholics pick and choose bits from the Bible to teach, and the majority of the time when I was given a Bible it was to read out of the New Testament.
I was kind of a bad little kid, and I would always skim through the Bible while the class was reading whatever Jesus had to say about fish and bread. I would read through the Old Testament on my own. I would have had no idea that "gnashing of teeth" and things like that were in the Bible if I hadn't done my own investigation.
ANYWAY, I just have a few sincere questions that I don't feel I have seen effectively answered while browsing through posts. (It's probably because most people who ask you negative questions start to throw in insults and that just ruins it for everybody!)
i) God is divine, and is not a physical being in the way that a human is. (Numbers 23:19- not a man, has divine power over man.)
God also hates. Well he "abhors." I don't even feel the need to dig up a Scripture for that one.
Consider that God is divine and unhuman- so how is it that he can posses human emotion? Emotions are produced by the physical brain. So how can this be? I have always sincerely wondered this.
Annnd lets wrap this up with
ii) Science has made many valid points against religion, but it has also contributed to proving that a lot of the Bible was actually real. (Science proved that Jesus actually existed- Scientists and historians are the people to thank for any contributing proof to the Bible being historically accurate.)
Do you give Science any credit whatsoever? Do you think praying is enough to sustain life, or do you believe that we need aspects of Science to stay innovative and keep the population alive? (Sorry for the strong bias undertones there.)
Sorry for the novel.
