greetings christians!
my name is Paul Oshana, I'm 27 years old and live in Portland, ME. I recently returned to the USA after travelling and living abroad for several years... I started in Greece and lived in Turkey for a year, followed by Armenia for a few months, then traveled through Iran, Iraq, Syria and headed home when I ran out of money.
I was born an orthodox chaldean christian, but my family never cared too much for the social life surrounding church. I chose to travel in the Middle East because I wanted to help the two-thousand year Christian culture that still exists there and see my glorious history of my ancestors. I stayed with god-fearing, righteous Christians in all of the above places and was welcomed by equally compassionate, god-fearing Muslims as well. If I learned anything through my travels, it is that the spirit of Jesus exists in all people, Christians or Muslims, blacks or whites, atheists or believers. In such a war-torn region laden with religious, ethnic, and egalitarian struggle, I was shocked to find love, compassion, reverence, and respect. Initially, I resigned myself to loathe the Muslims who had destroyed my ancestors link to holy land, but was overwhelmed by their sincerity and their respect for Jesus and the true path.
I left each place overcome by shame I felt for judging the beautiful, sincere, compassionate, friendly purely because they were not Christians. I have learned not to take pride in my own beliefs and history, and that is my I have begun the path towards salvation.
Matthew 5:44
