Well, obviously my real name isn't Scorch. It's a reference to a video game character.

Why would I use my real name on the internet? In this day and age, when privacy is becoming a luxury, I prefer to keep some parts of my private life, well ... private.

I could say the same thing about you. Yeah, Zechariah Smyth sounds like a real name, but the thing is, anyone can write something like that.

Besides, native English speakers can't properly pronounce my real name, so there's no real reason to divulge it.

I don't know. Maybe it's because people don't feel comfortable with the demands and responsibilities of the source material, so they cherry-pick the items they like, avoid things that they don't and voila! new (and proper) branch of the same religion.

Maybe it's because they want to feel like the special snowflake. Following their own unique take on a religion fulfills that need.

As for the second part of your statement. If people can call atheists immoral, misguided as well as make assumptions and so on, that means they're okay with generalizing. Therefore, logic dictates, there should be no problems with them being measured with the same stick and being neatly folded into the Christian category.
