Now then, I am most curious about the Jain belief that Karma is a physical substance, capable of entering the human body through the eyes or breath. Surely scientists have been able to verify the existence of this substance, yes?

If you could post some links to the peer-reviewed scientific studies dealing with this substance, I would be most fascinated to read them!

Regarding another thing, I don't want to offend you or anything, but I have to say I'm a little concerned about the symbol for Jainism. Buddhists and Hindus also use swastikas, so a swastika by itself might not be too disturbing, but you all have also got a right hand underneath the swastika, giving the classic Nazi salute.



I kind of feel like this might be in bad taste.

Tell me, have the Simon Wiesenthal Center or the Rainbow Coalition hit you up for money yet? They usually will if you give them this kind of excuse.

Mr. Machine, please be not offended by my answers. The Jain people I know, we are fully aware that the things we revere are only our vision of the truth. It is like the famous story of the elephant and the blind men. Everybody is groping a different part of the elephant and getting a true vision of the animal but still they are understanding only a part. I like to think that Jainism sees into the eye of the elephant and understands that there is a soul there. Sometimes when I am reading the texts of this forum I think some Christians are grapping only the lingam, eh? I personally like to think of religions as roadmaps. They tell you advice but the road is another thing and you are still navigating by yourself.

Yes, I think we can accummulate karma, bad things for the soul. I can see that Christians are not seeing it as real. I myself am not thinking that it is material or that it is real in the sense that you can go on measuring it. It is not science. Karma is dealing with how we are living our lives. Yes! It is the same with symbols. I am not going around with a swastika. I am thinking that the association with it is unfortunate but it is a symbol, it is not my religion. And I am very secular, yes? I can remain in Jainism without the symbols.

True Christians never suffer repercussions for past sins. Christ nullifies them one by one, just like shooting clay pigeons. PULL!!

Get right with God, lady...you'll feel like a mountain has been lifted from your shoulders! No more nagging conscience, no accountability...its GREAT!!

Yes, Mr. Hammer. Of course you are right over here and I am mistaken. Perhaps I should call karma sin over here? Yes, sin must be very much like karma, accummulating and preventing a good life. And truly, it is very difficult to follow the path to liberation getting rid of karma or sin in my religion. But I am not a strong believer. I really do not know if there is reincarnation or liberation. I am doing the Jain life for the sake of not hurting, not doing violence, trying to give others their chance without interfering. Yes, it is not too different from the teachings of Jesus, is it? Gospel of Luke, Chapter 6, yes?

Jain Sutras II, 25:24 says "He who does not speak untruth from anger or for fun, from greed or from fear, him we call a Brâhmana."

Yes, Mr. Machine. People have taken the Indian word and now they are using it according to their own need. It is not the same definition of karma I or you use but they must find it pracrical. Yes,it is OK for them. It is like the green or red karma or sin that is accummulating here by my profile. Apparently my Christian karma is not good, Yes.

Mr. Des, thank you for your interest! Yes. I am a graduating student of Primary Education, my grandparents came from India (Gujarati). I have unfortunately lost much of their language (it was Gandhiji’s language, as well) and culture but retain the Jain religion, although I am quite secularised. I am here learning about your world, your truths, your view to the universe and it is fascinating. Yes it is!
