      If you are talking about our economy I can tell you that not every Icelander loaned money the didn't have! Quite frankly I'm sick and tired of people blaming the Icelandic public about something the had no part. Yes I admit that the Icelandic government did not act quickly enough and is partly to blame among bankers, assholes who bought like crazy and had no money to be investing. To me it is just as same a me saying YOU are to blame for the invasion and occupation in the middle east. That is both unfair to you and I would be giving to little credit to G.W. Bush.

                        you think Greenland got the name because it had big forrest and green grass? no actually Iceland was supposed to be named Greenland and Greenland-Iceland. cant remember how that happened but probably some Icelander on this forum can.

                          Eiríkur The Red named Greenland Greenland despite it's glaciers and lack of land to grow to draw settlers to the island.

                          Iceland was at first named Thule, then Snæland [Snowland/Land of snow] and finally, Ísland or as you know it, Iceland.

                              I have never had Problems with people believing in god until i stumbled upon this forum. I've always respected that some people feel better believing there is something watching over us although we atheists don't need the "Imaginary friend God" to feel that secure feeling.

                              But Christians have always had a problem with me being an atheist. That's the difference between Atheists and Christians. Christians don't have any respect for other people.

                                oh ok just some misunderstanding .

                                well i knew that it was first called Thule and then snæland. if i remember (long time since i studied about this) Some viking (cant remember who) came to Iceland and stayed for some time . the time he went away he saw that it had started getting colder and snowing a lot in the mountains and cursed it with name as Land of cold. Land of Ice and more. don't know if this is right but this is what my history teacher did teach me about 5-6 years ago.
