Again, if Gein would have been True Christian in the end (by the way, he was not one earlier, he was a false Christian. Reading bible alone does not make you saved) he went to heaven and then, yes, he was a better person than your friend. Of course your friend has still time to accept Jesus as his personal Saviour, so he might become a normal human as well in the future. Then they would be equally good.

However, as it seems they both are/were heathens, in the eyes of God they are equally bad. That's only thing what matters. It's entirely different thing how secular law sees a person, and in the end it is totally irrelevant.

There can't be such thing as friend for me, if they do not follow the bible to the letter. Those people are heathens. There is no difference with religion and who you are. If you are not True Christian™, you are not whole, you are a heathen. How hard is it to get it? If you go to heaven, you are following the word of God and you are good person worthy to be called as friend. If you go to hell, you are not following word of God and you are a bad person not worthy to be called as friend.

It is quite all right to be a friend to someone who hates Jesus, for this way, you can help him learn about and come to love Jesus. This is called "witnessing", and is a good thing.

Praying for those heathens is good, too.

However, you should not depend on a 'friend' who is not a Christian or consider him your equal, and certainly should not marry such a 'friend', for it is written:

2 Corinthians 6:14-17

14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?

16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

So no, you should not have friends who are not believers. But you can witness to people who are not believers, in the hope that they become believers and can join you in Heaven with Jesus.
