  • Hello Everyone

Hello everybody! I hope you are well this morning.

I have been reading this BBoard for some time, and have finally registered. I must confess, i have never been exposed to religion of any sort, and would ask that you don't hold it against me.

I would like to understand more about the Landover Baptist Church.

"That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil-this is the gift of God." Ecclesiastes 3:13

It's just so true... If only more people took the time to read and think the world would be a better place.

I run a stem cell research lab, and would like to know your opinions and thoughts on current stem cell technology and ethics. Ask me anything!

Praise God by getting His Word out.

    Welcome friend.
We always welcome differing viewpoints from newcomers, and I'm sure that you will soon come around to our way of thinking.

Yes, Praise The Word of God. I have been getting it out for many years.

Has Stem Cell Research got anything to do with killing babies or mocking God?

No, it does not. We are do research and development of technologies that are used to help people who have been burned, maimed, and paralyzed.

"Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms."
        Peter 4:10

Embryonic stem cell research, is a totally different thing, and is not something we deal with AT ALL...

While no one has a problem looking at cheek cells in a microscope, nobody thinks that cloning a human is ethically acceptable. Where do we draw the line in between the two?

Hm...about the stem cell stuff - I don't know much about it except that it's got the cat-lickers all in frothing convulsions , so it's a fair bet I like it.

Even though this thwarts God's efforts?

"Who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD?" -- Exodus 4:11

Also remember that God went to the effort to maim these people as a loving punishment for their sins:

"The LORD shall smite thee with madness, and blindness, and astonishment of heart." -- Deuteronomy 28:28

God also punishes sin pre-emptively, in the case of people born disabled.

"Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms."
            Peter 4:10
That is true. Administering God's grace is different from thwarting God's will. I think it's a good thing that the rapture will come before any of your discoveries are put into practice, and I pray that you find a career that glorifies the efforts of God, instead of thwarting them.

It seems to me prayer would be a more appropriate way to fix these people.

                COM,

Have you got anything positive to say about anything? You certainly live up to your name! Now, how about sharing some of that joy that Jesus brings?
Immaculate Virgin, Mother of Jesus and our Mother, we believe in your triumphant assumption into heaven where the angels and saints acclaim you as Queen. BTW, the Queen of Heaven is totally a Christian idea that's supported by the Bible and not just something we stole off the pagans, honest guv'nor. We join them in praising you and bless, oh Goddess, who is above all creatures. Including Jesus. Us Mary-worshippers are pretty blasphemous, in case anyone hadn't noticed. With them we offer you alone our devotion and love.

Could you explain whose soul is in a body if you put one person's stem cells in another person? Wouldn't people go crazy when there are two souls in one body? And what if the donor was a sinner, would that damn the recipient to Hell? Or do you think he could get baptized a second time?

Oh, and what proof do you have your stem cells aren't from embryo's you have aborted and then destroyed into a million little stem cells?

I find that hard to believe considering your following quote:

I don't know how to respond... All of the cells we use are from rats, pigs, cows, or goats that go to slaughter for food. As far as human stem cells, there are lots of different types of stem cells throughout the body, for instance, in bone marrow.

I think it would be reasonable to argue that a stem cell based treatment or product would have the same impact on the soul as person receiving a blood or plasma transfusion.

Bandaging a wound is clearly a good thing. Does this stop being a good thing at some point? What is that point? Healing burns is one of the main applications for stem cell based technology.

RunFar is lying through his teeth. Everyone knows that stem research is nothing but a front for liberals raping and mutilating children. Stem cell researchers are even more perverse than the Catlickers.

Run Far, you did not think that you could pull the wool over our eyes, did you? You mistake our soft, genteel natures for feebleness of mind, but you are wrong. We True Christians(tm) are sharp and think on our feet. All the years of having blood orgies in a laboratory have dulled your wits and made you imperceptive. We are well informed about the evils of stem cell research, and I think I speak for many others when I say that your kind are not welcome here!

Go take your infant anus mutilation and your Satanic blood ritual elsewhere!

I am happy for you that God allowed your mother to get better, the people of your church must've prayed pretty hard to help.

I thought you guys had to have some ethical review before you could do this sort of science stuff. Such questions would naturally come up in a review like that, wouldn't they?

Ok, the Bible says we have dominion over all creatures, so destroying pigs and rats to get stem cells should not be a problem.
                              Genesis 1:26
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

But now I'm even more confused, if you use rat stem cells to cover a burn, wouldn't the patient grow rat skin and rat fur on his wound? Or is it not so bad if you shave it often?

Originally posted by RunFar View Post

Well, personally I wouldn't want a blood transfusion, I mean if Jesus wants me to live He would provide a way for me to be healed, I don't need a physician or scientist for that.

But I'm not sure if blood is the same as stem cells, as I understand it stem cells are undifferentiated and can grow into an entire human being, just like an embryo, so if they can become an entire human they must have a soul. Blood can't turn into a human, so I don't think blood has a soul... Although now I think about it, we do have to wash ourselves in Jesus' blood to cleanse ourselves of sin, so maybe in some cases there is some soul in blood? Because if Jesus's blood was just regular blood it wouldn't do anything special.

This is getting way too complicated, I think I would like to ask a Pastor what this means.

By the same logic cutting someone with a scalpel to operate on him is also clearly be a good thing. Does it stop being a good thing at some point? Yes, stabbing someone with a scalpel or knife stops being a good thing when it kills either this life or the chance at the afterlife in Heaven. I think the same standard should be applied to your stem cell bandages.

That is good Scripture, but remember the context, these verses come right before and explain more of what Jesus commanded to His disciples:
                              Matthew 10:1,5-6
1 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.
                              ...
10:5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:
10:6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
The healing powers don't come from science, but from God, and should only be used on Christians, not on Jews and foreigners, so be careful how you apply your knowledge.
                              Leviticus 26:15-16
And if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant: I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.
